A decidedly un-5% alc./vol. waft of ethanol escapes the glass, quickly followed by surprisingly muted notes of sugar, hot caramel and a drop of molasses. Given the intense colour, the flavour is disappointingly thin: traces of burnt toffee and chocolate milk behind an eaves-trough-full of rainwater. Refreshing rather than overpowering, Waterloo Dark is a show-off beer that looks like a black Corvette but has a tractor motor under the hood. dirkules (613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

First and only ever schwarz. Reccomended! beanmedic (324), Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 9, 2004 At first this beer looks great. Very dark and good head, but if you wait 30 seconds it just fizzes away like any mediocre beer. Still have to give it points for colour. The aroma is actually nice. Decent maltiness. Some roast and toast, but not a whole lot. Taste doesn’t live up to the aroma, and certainly not the colour. Almost non-existent in the dark toastiness I hoped for. Can I be said to be disappointed, if I expected to be disappointed? travismills (37), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

This might’ve been watered down or flat (it was at Peel Pub after all) but this was a terrible experience. Dark, yes, but otherwise totally lacking in character. Grape bubblegum on the nose, nothing else to distinguish it. presario (2956), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 1, 2004 Light but decent aroma of roasted malt and maybe a hint of coffee. Attractive dark colour with ruby highlights but poor head retention. Light body. Slightly sour malt taste. LIght flavour but drinkable. Best as first beer of the day, does not hold up well following moderately hopped or stronger bodied beer. Fits the commercial description to a T. tupalev (2612), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | May 10, 2004 Bottle, Skydome, Toronto (from their Beers of the World vendor – it was this, Alexander Keith’s, or Carlsberg!). Dark beer in colour only, this is a light tasting beer with only the slightest hint of malt in the taste. Not much else going on. Easy to drink though and the appearance and packaging is nice.
