beanmedic (324), Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Sep 1, 2004 Updated: Dec 20, 2004not too bad. a good stab at a real beer from canada’s biggest wannabe macro brewer. fairly decent, actually contains enough flavour to fool regular macro swill drinkers. flavour is pleasant, but its a little watery for my liking. shorlin (373), St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada Aug 9, 2004 At first this beer looks great. Very dark and good head, but if you wait 30 seconds it just fizzes away like any mediocre beer. Still have to give it points for colour. The aroma is actually nice. Decent maltiness. Some roast and toast, but not a whole lot. Taste doesn’t live up to the aroma, and certainly not the colour. Almost non-existent in the dark toastiness I hoped for. Can I be said to be disappointed, if I expected to be disappointed? travismills (37), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Aug 8, 2004 Updated: Aug 22, 2004This is a very intresting beer, alot of taste, not a superb taste, but alright. Very dark and unique. shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 29, 2004 On tap. This might’ve been watered down or flat (it was at Peel Pub after all) but this was a terrible experience. Dark, yes, but otherwise totally lacking in character. Grape bubblegum on the nose, nothing else to distinguish it. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jul 1, 2004 Light but decent aroma of roasted malt and maybe a hint of coffee. Attractive dark colour with ruby highlights but poor head retention. Light body. Slightly sour malt taste. LIght flavour but drinkable. Best as first beer of the day, does not hold up well following moderately hopped or stronger bodied beer. Fits the commercial description to a T. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 10, 2004 Bottle, Skydome, Toronto (from their Beers of the World vendor – it was this, Alexander Keith’s, or Carlsberg!). Dark beer in colour only, this is a light tasting beer with only the slightest hint of malt in the taste. Not much else going on. Easy to drink though and the appearance and packaging is nice. Beer Snob (378), Ontario, Canada Apr 1, 2004 Updated: May 28, 2004At one time, Waterloo Dark was a solid "exotic" choice. Either the beer has changed or the competition - foreign and domestic - have left it far behind. Flavour is in hiding. A dark beer for those who like macros. MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Mar 20, 2004 Scary? That's an odd commercial description. Body looks ok, but I am not getting much as far as aroma is concerned. Almost not there. Slightly malty if anything. Taste is of malt and slightly coffee and chocolate, but just barely. Smooth on the palate though, which is why I had 2. I also like the stubbies.
