Commercial Description:
A dark beer can be a very scary thought to some people. Surprise, surprise. There's no other beer quite like Waterloo Dark, refreshingly light and delicate in taste but rich in colour. Don't be afraid of the dark. surprise yourself.

At one time, Waterloo Dark was a solid "exotic" choice. Either the beer has changed or the competition - foreign and domestic - have left it far behind. Flavour is in hiding. A dark beer for those who like macros.

Scary? That's an odd commercial description. Body looks ok, but I am not getting much as far as aroma is concerned. Almost not there. Slightly malty if anything. Taste is of malt and slightly coffee and chocolate, but just barely. Smooth on the palate though, which is why I had 2. I also like the stubbies.

Brown ale with a nice fruity(raisins) and chocolaty nose, almost vinous. Thats where the pleasure stops. Very sweet malts and little hops make this a uninspired beer in the mouth. Very thin also. Note that this was tasted in a blind tasting.

Dark brown/red with a creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt. Sweet. Kind of like a thin porter. Very light mouth feel. Sour and tart with notes of roastiness and smoke, some burnt sugar. Late malts. Where are the hops? Not too bad from Brick.

Pours a reddish black with next to no head. Scents include metalic malts and roasted caramel. Initial sip was very watery. Very little carbonation. No metalic taste but roasted malts were present. Slightly nutty flavour too. Besides the roasted flavour the palate was almost non-existant. This one was out of a bottle, I've had it on tap and was much better.

Very light tasting dark beer. Smooth with a slight malt aftertaste. The dark beer for the masses?

Surprisingly light tasting for a dark beer. Hint of sweetness, light malt flavour. I quite enjoyed this. (And it now comes in "stubbies.")

Deep ruby color, head went away quickly. Some roasted malt in the aroma but it was faint. Lighter malt flavor. Light to medium bodied. Not bad but could use a bit more flavor/aroma.
