Commercial Description:
A dark beer can be a very scary thought to some people. Surprise, surprise. There's no other beer quite like Waterloo Dark, refreshingly light and delicate in taste but rich in colour. Don't be afraid of the dark. surprise yourself.

Decent tan head but does not last long and little carbonation. Aroma has gone on vacation. It was there initially but quickly left for the Bahamas. Some roasted malt is all I can remember. Color is a very nice port red. Flavor is a little weak and bland. More malts with a little bit of chocolate. Not much else. Finish is a little sticky and unimpressive. Not a bad beer just bland and unimpressive.

Very dark ruby with no head, but lots of initial carbonation. Chocolate and smoky aroma. Vinous with flavours of vanilla and almond. Slightly prickly mouthfeel with a full body and a dry finish.

TFOB 2007. Draft. Very dark brown, with a small tan head (3+). Muted sweet malt aroma (6+). Light dark malt flavour with very light notes of ambiguous dark fruit. (6+) Average palate. Quaffable, this is pleasant but not assertive enough to take it to the next level. 6+/3+/6+/3/13 <P>Octoberfest 2000 - just a bit sweet and malty, smooth and thicker than average. 5/3/5/4/10 - 2.7

Nice dark color, small head that faded pretty quickly.Malty aroma with the usual coffee and light to faint chocolate. There was little to no carbonation which wasn't a bad thing for this brew. For the flavor you guessed it,lightly malty some coffee tones and a semi-sweet chocolate. Not much going on here.Theres little to get excited about, even finishes with a thin feel and a mild malty after taste.I'm pretty glad i don't have to many more of these brews left it would be a shame to have alot to drink.

Dark brown w/ quickly dissipating tan head. Mildly malty nose. Light body. Light roasted malt flavour w/ just a hint of coffee & chocolate. Finish is watery, slightly acidic, & not very bitter.

Draught at The Village Idiot Pub. I heard that they reformulated this one recently (probably around the time that they launched the Brickman series?), so I thought I should give it another go, especially since my previous rating didn’t really say much about the beer. Reddish-brown colour in the glass (lighter than I recall it being in the past) with a small tan head. Aroma is decent, with some nice nutty & roasty notes. Body is still on the thin side, a little watery. Flavour still isn’t fantastic, but it’s better than it used to be - there are some discernible notes of cocoa and malt, even an interesting little hit of almond, and a lightly hopped finish. Still not a favourite, but much improved.

ORIGINAL RATING: When I was younger, I used to hang out at this goth club where the only non-macro beers they had available were Waterloo Dark and Red Baron. The Red Baron was cheaper, so I would usually drink that, but on nights when I felt like splurging on a "premium" beer with "more flavour", I’d have a Waterloo Dark. Tonight, a couple of friends were playing an electronic music night at that ol’ goth club, so I went there for the first time in ages, and I found that the beer selection hadn’t changed after all this time. So I had both a Red Baron and a Waterloo Dark for old times sake. The Red Baron was the same macro-wannabe that I remembered, but the Waterloo Dark... well, it amazes me that I used to consider this a strong and flavourful beer. It has a touch more body than a typical macro, and the faintest hint of something that vaguely resembles a little bit of coffee... but really, it’s probably just Red Baron with some colour added. [3/2/4/2/8 - 1.9]

I stood before the great dark door, and for a moment I could have sworn I got a whiff of clove and orange, but when I opened the door there was nothing there

Dark brown with no head. Aroma is sort of sweet with hints of coffee. Flavor is slightly malty and sweet. Overall it's really bland and watery. If you are ever in Waterloo or Kitchener, Ont it's a good beer to wash down pizza at Pizza Hut.
