COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Looks dark, tastes light. It’s Ontario’s favourite dark lager. A dark beer that is slowly brewed with Canadian grown malted barley, specialty coloured malts, imported hops and pure cultured brewers yeast. Dark lagers are enjoyed all year long, and they’re not as filling as ales. Waterloo Dark will cut some of the heaviness in sauce-based meat dishes. Waterloo Dark is an equally perfect beer to go with appetizers suitable for watching sports games, or used as an actual ingredient when preparing a meal. Experience what this great dark "light tasting" lager has to offer and why it has won multiple awards at the World Cup of Beer, Canadian Brewing Awards, Ontario Brewing Awards and the Monde Selection International Institute For Quality Selections.

Bottle in cleveland, a dark lager, nothing to say here, it was light and refreshing with some tones of barley, but that’s it.

Light tasting, underlying slight hoppy taste, decent flavour that doesn't overwhelm. It's what you'd expect from a solid lager, the deception is in the look, it has a Stout like appearance. Good beer all year round. -- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10

Bottle at Waterloo, Marriott, Ontario, 29th April 2013, tastes like a lager, with some, caramel notes, pretty miserable

Toasted malt aroma, medium sweet taste, very mild bitterness. Honestly not bad considering the artificial flavor, but I definitely wouldn’t classify it with the craft brews in the area.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2012 Rich dark amber in color that has a thick frothy head that never completely diminishes. Has a light hoppy scent with a hint of spiced malt. Taste is a medium bitter hop with a light malty finish. Goes down very light for a dark beer. I can see how it has won many awards

Can from LCBO Appearance: Very dark brown to black with ruby highlights. Creamy light tan head which doesn’t last long. Aroma: Hints of blackcurrant or cherries, faint vanilla and coffee. Low to no hop aroma. Sweet bready malt aroma. Flavour: Chocolate cake first, then fading to some fruitier flavours such as prunes, slight hop bitterness but balanced towards malt. Mouthfeel: Quite smooth, no astringency, moderate to low carbonation. Leaves a slick feeling on the tongue. Finish not overly dry, slight warmth in the aftertaste with more dried dark fruits. Overall: Not a great example of a Schwarzbier, as there wasn’t much complexity. Although it may suit better with the dunkel lager style. Not bad, and inexpensive, so good for the beer drinker on a tight budget who fancies something other than DAB!!

Very dark reddish brown with tan head with good retention and moderate lacing. Aroma of black cherry, toast, nuts and earth. Tastes of bread with a trace of toast and caramel. Thin and fizzy with a short dry slightly herbal finish. Overall, better than the big brands, but not by a lot.
