sinkhole (176), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Mar 7, 2007 Poured dark with minimal tan head. Slight aroma of roasted malts which carries through to the initial taste. Some chocolate nuttiness also detected. Surprisingly finishes with no bitterness. A decent selection but not outstanding. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Mar 2, 2007 Updated: Jul 27, 2007pours a nice darl caramel color. small tan head. Aroma is malt, with a really nice nutiness. Really nice carbonation, flavour is nutty, and malty, with a touch of frutiness. Nice and light, and quite refreshing. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 23, 2006 Dark, sourish, true to its style but certainly not the best example of it. Quaffable but weak mouthfeel. Modest taste some chocolate malt.Spot of coffee and nuts, the latter like a brown. Even a hint of licorice. Reasonable carbonation. Malty but not cloying sweet.
aobecksy (661), Middle of no where, Ohio, USA Nov 20, 2006 Smells great, looks great but lacks in flavor and body. A disappointment to come home to after a riveting day in the office. tomthompson89 (1456), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 20, 2006 dark beer thin small dissipating head, sweet malty, some choc malts, ome coffee, decent beer easy drinking DerWeg (748), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 14, 2006 Rather fruity and estery for a non-fruity, non-estery style. Little in the way of roastiness.Just a refreshing non-descript beer I might have mistaken for a light-bodied dark English Ale. Doesn’t smell like much; aroma inoffensive. pootzboy (1035), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada Oct 1, 2006 Updated: Oct 25, 2006Re evaluating this beer after hearing it was recently reformulated.
The pour produced a decent dark cola colored lager with a rocky-sticky 2 finger cap that lasts well and laces the glass.
Aromas are subtle: some cocoa and sweet bready tones light musty earthy yones.
Medium bodied, fair malt spine, silken mouthfeel, and a more rounded toasy malt character than before.
Up front the toasted dark Munich malts depart some cocoa sweetness that is quickly balanced by light pearl hop presence..mid palate there is more substance in the body with some dried fruit and nut notes and some light souring ...finish is clean and lightly drying with lingering bready aftertastes.
This transition seems to have given Waterloo dark some dunkel characteristics as the hops have been slightly attenuated and the malts beefed up...a pleasant change. vitamine (35), USA Sep 8, 2006 i love this beer. everytime i crack one open it brings a smile to my face. this unfortunatly is the only good beer brick has to offer
