MarkoR (224), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 17, 2005 On tap at Zazou Lounge, in Toronto. Sans éclat. Not memorable. Brown colour, not a lot of flavour. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Dec 12, 2005 A dark beer can be a very scary thought to some people… in this case, I can see why! Rancid butter and caramel in the nose. Clear dark brown body is topped by a huge, fluffy, off white head that recedes very slowly to a generous cover. Diacetyl overwhelms any positive flavours that may have once existed in this one. Watery and heavy in the mouth with carbonation that does not last at all. Sampled on tap at the Walper Hotel in Kitchener. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 1, 2005 draught. deep brown with a ruby tinge, small tan head. yeast candy nose and a hint of sourness. not flavourful at all...ugh. some light chocolate and sour notes. boring. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Sep 28, 2005 Bottle (341ml). Poured deep ruby with a very foamy-fizzy tan head. Aroma of burnished steel, sweet sort of roasted malt, I guess some hops under the metal. Taste is cardboard, grain, somewhat sour malt, maybe a hint of sour cherry hiding in there. Mouthfeel is a little brackish, almost chalky, hard to describe - there’s an odd metallic nature to this one that puts me off. What do these people think "dark" means, besides added colouring? FLAVOUR, folks - proper roast malt, ramped up hops - character, that’s what we want. *sigh* paco (204), Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada Sep 24, 2005 On tap at Wayne Gretzky’s in Toronto. Dark brown with a tinh white head. Not much flavour, somewhat sweet and malty. I wouldn’t drink this one again. Zoob (84), Bakersfield, California, USA Sep 23, 2005 A pretty good Canadain Craft beer, not as asertive as US crafts.
A true brown hue with light malty sweetness and a tiny hint of roast on the finish. Draft pour, poor head retention.
Easy drinking and tasty. The Description suggests a Schwartzbier, I think that is a stretch.
Cheers pintbypint (1002), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Sep 1, 2005 341ml brown bottle. Poured dark brown, mahogany tints. Head was initially large, fizzed away to a small tight ring of bubbles clinging to edge of the glass. Aroma is sweet dark malts. Flavour is again sweet with a brief toffee note, roasted note also appears in finish but is rather light. Medium body. albert007 (409), Penobsquis, New Brunswick, Canada Aug 22, 2005 Bottle.Sampled at a Hilton somewhere in Toronto. Dark brown color with smallish beige head. Roasted candyish aroma with hints of fruit. Body somewhat lacking oomph with an unpleassantly tangy finish/aftertaste.
