2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 Illuminatus (92) - Kitchener-Waterloo, - APR 3, 2008
Six pack from the LCBO. Pours a dull brown, medium head. Flavour is a touch metallic, similar to a macrobrew with a touch more malt. Unimpressive.

Slightly malty flavour. The body is nice and black but the head is mediocre and quickly fades. Taste is only slightly malty and roasted. Close your eyes and you’d barely detect the colour. Mediocre.

Drinkable, maltier than expected. The roasted nut flavor seems to dominate the mild bitterness.

roasty, coffee, full aroma, brown, light sweetness, light body, average carbonation, thin feel, not bad at all for the price

Bottle. Poured dark brown, almost opaque with medium tan head. Very light fruity aroma. Palate initially light and watery. Sweet & roasted caramel and raison flavor. Light dry finish.

Thanks to Brian for setting me up with some Canadian beers I had not seen before. Tad bit of cocoa in the noise along with some pleasant malty sugars. Dark clear and reddish with pretty lacing. Tingly and sugary but satisfying palate, though simple. Decent. But I like the style.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 WheatKing (160) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 25, 2012
Well I know schwarzbier well enough to know it’s not supposed to taste like this. Taste of hotness (at 5%!) and so-so malt. Where’s the German flavour? It should be relabelled as an American dark lager, it wouldn’t be as good as average for that style but at least it would make sense. 100% for appearance of course, how could I give it anything else?
2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Tiger_08 (64) - Sarnia, Ontario, CANADA - APR 7, 2012
April 6 2012. 473ml can poured into pint glass. Pours a very dark burgundy almost black except in bright light, with a 1" head that quickly falls to a thin cap and finally a ring after leaving some lacing during consumption. Light on the nose with only hint of malt and hops. Even lighter on the taste buds. Like the description says - for those who are scared of dark beers - for those who like them this is weak. Has good flavour but tastes watered down. This is only reinforced with the watery palate. Refreshing and clean mouthfeel and no aftertaste but not comparable to other dark beers. While living near the brewery I had many on tap and will continue to enjoy them, just don't expect a rich dark bittersweet beer.

341ml bottle pours a dark brown color with a small light beige head that settles quite quickly leaving only a small trace of lacing on the glass. Aroma is light roasted malts and caramel with a hint of hops. Taste is light caramel malt sweetness with a hint of roasted malt and hop bitterness. Body is on the thin side for the style and carbonation is okay. Just an average dark lager, nothing special here.

The Beer Store, Toronoto 500ml can ($3ish): Pours a dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is lightly roasted malt and some lager smell. Taste is similar. It is very mild. Nothing offensive about it whatsoever, but there is also nothing really outstanding. Would make a good session ale.
