patricks110 (172), Alberta, Canada Jul 23, 2008 Pours a dark brown slightly carbonated beer. Large and frothy head which recedes and an aroma of caramel malts. A light and slightly delicate mouthfeel with a taste of caramel and nutty malts. Overall, a pretty average dark lager.
SuzyGreenberg (1028), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 2, 2008 16 oz. can - thanks to matt7215 for the trade; clear, dark brown with tan head to the edges; roasty, raw with slight smoke and chocolate aromas; very light and thin but with nice, dry maltiness; i don’t drink schwarzbiers that often, but i kind of dig the style; this one could use some more flavor though KyotoLefty (196), Kyoto, Japan Sep 9, 2008 16oz can bought in Toronto.
Dark brown, slight red to orange tint. Tall beige head. Somewhat sweet dark malt aroma, lots of caramel, some chocolate, rather simple, but straightforward and not bad. Between a dunkel and Schwarz. Simple dark malt flavor, caramel, chocolate, sweet, but slightly bready and biscuity. Not all that exciting but pleasant to drink. Rather light in body. Nice enough but not very interesting.
kwoeltje (1220), Manchester, Missouri, USA Jul 30, 2008 (draught) Dark brown/black with small head.Roast malt aroma. Flavor of roasted caramel malt. Boutip (1810), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jul 22, 2008 Bottle: Poured a clear above average brown color lager with a large foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of lightly sweet caramel malt. Taste is also dominated by lightly sweet malt note. Definitely too thin for the style with some average carbonation. Refreshing but a bit thin and lacing some flavour.
