COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Chocolate malt makes this a true amber ale an excellent choice for beer lovers looking for a full bodied ale. The basic ingredients are similar to that of Copperhead, but with the addition of chocolate malt and cascade hops, this brew is a bold roasty amber.

Sampler, from 2001 notes.Chocolate malt? Really? Looked more to me like a pale ale, as there was more of a hop overtone than anything else. Other than that, I can't call it much more than average.

Draft - Pale malts with a perfumy hop. Clear gold with a rich white head. Tastes just as it smells. Not sure how this is a red, but it does taste better than the others they brew.

On tap. Clear copper with a small ring of bubbles. Mild aroma of toasted pecan and dry grass. Tastes the same with maybe a touch of cocoa and caramel. Light-medium body is balanced and has average carbonation.

On tap at brewery. Not that good, sorta had a stale taste. But then again, it was a good effort for being from Oklahoma.

I don’t think this is nearly as bad as its ratings. Its balance is a bit off. The grassy hops are a bit too understated. Still, it has a nice cloudy red appearance. A subtle sweetness and a sessionable character.

[Tap] Pours a light amber color with a small lining of white head. Virtually no aroma. Maybe some caramel if you’re really trying to pick something up. Taste is of generic caramel malts. Sweet and somewhat unbalanced. A dry and grainy finish. Some light hopping in the finish as well. High carbonation. A very muted flavor profile here overall.

(Draught) Pours an amber body with a medium white head. Aroma of caramel, grass, and some brown sugar. Flavor of caramel malt, earth, roasted malt, grass, and minerals (like sucking on a filthy penny I would imagine).

Medium copper pour, nice and big head and lacing. Nicely carbed with a fruity bitter hops. Surprising hops out of Coach’s. Little bit of a metallic flavor, eh…

Tap at brewpub: Red amber color with the cloudy unfiltered look. It has a woody aroma, a little tangy and a little bourbon perhaps. The flavor is sweet and malty. It needs more hops to balance it out. I wonder if it was a fresh keg because the carbonation was livelier than the others.
