Cask-conditioned at the Bag O’Nails, Bristol 9/12/07 (badged at 4.5%). Dark mahogany colour with a ruby tinge and a slight tan head which left plenty of lacing. Light malt and chocolate aroma. Chocolate flavour with some spicing and a short, dry finish. Good.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Reading Beer Festival, May 2008. Dark brown. Plenty of fruity malt with a slightly vinous, sour edge. Some licorice. I originally had this down as a tasty porter-like bitter but now I see it is on the site as a Porter. So I guess it must be a tasty bitter-like porter.

Gravity cask at Pigs Ear. Lovely dark ruby. Some smoke, coffee, cocoa. Sweetish, rather thin, not very impressive. Chocolate finish.

A Mes rate. Gravicask at Pigs Ear. Dark brown with a thin off white head. Good coffee and chocolate notes promise lots but sadly it delivers little due to a very metallic finish. Full on iron. Probably not in great condition looking at the other rates.

Cask at Macclesfield Beer festival. Dark brown with creamy yellow head. Chocolate, coffee, with a bitter aftertaste, Could do with a little more life. Didn’t care for it much but it certainly isn’t rubbish, just didn’t fly my kite.

Cask conditioned at Banbury Beer Festival 09-05-08 Pours dark brown with some nice ruby gints and an off white head. Good bitterness, nice roasty and chocolatey notes, this isn’t quite as memorable as it was the previous night when Glen passed me a little but its very decent stuff nonetheless.

Cask conditioned at Banbury Beer Fest ’08. Dark chestnut with slight malt head. Dark, roasty toasted notes, quite plummy with notes of liquorice and coffee overlaid with a sweetish caramel. Chocolate in the finish. Good stuff.
