Cask conditioned gravity dispense Northants Beer Festival 2011. A dark chestnut coloured mild. Sweet caramel in the nose with wood and fruit. Ash, chocolate and a little sourness in the mouth. Not bad.

Cask, The Salmon, Leicester. Very dark brown with a beige head. Aromas are chocolate and coffee malts with dusty yeast and dark cherries. Sharp vinegar on the nose with hints of barnyard. Flavours are sour berries with lemon. Light coffee with a spritzy yeast finish. Some floral notes hang around. Very close to being unpleasant but ends up decent.

Cask conditioned at Merton Summer Beer Fest ’10. Dark brown with malt head. The aroma is of roasted chestnut, reminiscent of the open braziers that used to frequent the City centre in Birmingham. Anyway back to the beer, there is an overriding sweetness, ovaltine note that masks the flavour for me, caramel, toffee, I couldn’t get to the roasiness that I got in the aroma which would have been nice. Still reasonable though.
