Aluminum bottle with a cap that reads, Oct 24, 2014! Received in a trade with weihenweizen. Thin lasting tan head on top a black liquid. Aroma is star anise underneath chocolate and spent coffee grinds.

The body is what I enjoy most about this Porter, medium plus and much like a stout. Oily type texture. Smooth creamy carbonation level. Flavor of spent espresso beans, anise, through the center shows dark fruits or a red grape character. Really enjoyable!

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, cocoa and floral. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long chocolate, cocoa and caramel finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle, alu. It pours a brown body under a small, dense, dark beige head. Mostly roasted malts in the aroma, with some molasses, brown sugar and leather. Hints of vanilla. Cocoa notes, a good dash of molasses and brown sugar in the flavor. Some vanilla and leather too. Itís full-bodied and smooth on the palate, with a nice bitterness drying things up. Lasting finish with molasses, some vanilla and leather. A very smooth on, not your regular porter, but sure a fine one. 150620

Sample at ACBF in Boston. Pours nearly black with a thin brown head. Nose is a bouquet of coffee, roasted grains, chocolate and a hint of anise. Taste is balanced. Sweet malts are complimented nicely by a nice hop bite. Very tasty brew!

Aluminum bottle courtesy of weihenweizen! Pours a milky brown, pillowy mocha head that fades to a rind with some potty lacing. Aromas milk chocolate light roasted almonds iced coffee with cream and sugar and some grain/cereal notes. Taste mimics the nose with a light but smooth milk chocolate character that moves along a mild bitter backbone of coffee and earthy hops. Solid porter!

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance had a decent looking dark brown to black color with a decent off white to white foamy head that died within less than a minute. Light lacing streamed itself all along the glass. The smell had a lie roasty chocolate to light cocoa with a light bitter roasted coffee bean like aroma leading to a nice dark fruity plum-like ness. The taste took all of those flavors and combined to taste really nice. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation sat fairly subdued but good for the style. Overall, really nice Baltic Porter Iíd have again if I could get it.

Holy wow this is fantastic. This beer is deceptively light-bodied, but has plenty of malty, chocolatey, toasty flavors. No hop presence aside from underlying bitterness. A tiny bit of floral hop aroma is almost hidden. Thereís almost a milky flavor/feeling but it might be the texture. The beer finishes as powerfully as it starts with bread crust and a bit of fig/caramel. Fantastic, and a beer West Virginia can be proud of!

Bottle pours deep brown/black with a thin beige head. Aroma is lightly roasted with lots of dark fruit esters. Flavor shows dark chocolate, light coffee, anise, licorice, dark berries, and some naked alcohol. Overall body is moderate, relatively sweet, with light roast and light to moderate bitterness.
