3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks, Weihenweizen. Tasted from big bottle into nonic pint, it poured an opaque, dark, dark brown color, a reddish tint when held to the light, with a creamy beige head, somewhat lasting with a little lace. Very roasty aroma, with strong black coffee and dark chocolate notes, cherry and plum impressions from roasted barley. Hops, yeast and alcohol are nearly invisible, just the way a Baltic Porter should be. Great balance of malt sweetness to bitterness (derived from hops and charred grains), toasty, red wine, tart. Medium body and carbonation but thin mouthfeel, slight mineral water hardness and complex but very dry finish. Only the second beer I’ve had from Bridge Brew Works (or West Virginia as a whole) but I enjoyed this immensely more than their Trubell.
