4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 thechandler (401) - Charleston, USA - FEB 4, 2012
Pours a hazy pale yellow with a minimal white head. Aroma is lightly alcoholic with hints of banana and apricot. Taking a sip though, is wow. Fantastically balanced. Sweet and strong, a little bit bitter, but not enough to counter-balance the sweetness. Just a bit of spice flavor in the backend...clove or anise. This is absolutely wonderful. As good as just about any beer I’ve ever had.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Nickls (1342) - SE DC, Washington DC, USA - MAY 28, 2012
Bottle. Slight white head on a murky burnt marigold orange. sweet stone fruits, white grape, vanilla, some oxidation qualities. Fairly sweet, pots of light fruits and some sweet breadiness. Medium body with tiny faint carbonation. This has signs of not being at it’s prime and I need to revisit.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 weihenweizen (758) - Charleston Area, West Virginia, USA - APR 11, 2012
Refrigerated bottle at Pies and Pints poured into a shaker. Pours translucent golden with small white head. Some lacing, medium/light carbonation, medium body, and fruit aroma. Taste is fruit in particular pressed apple, light citrus, light passionfruit, and a hint of alcohol. Warning, for the ABV the alcohol is so well covered this is dangerous. Simply the best belgian style beer I have had from WV.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 chicowv (257) - Canaan Valley, West Virginia, USA - FEB 18, 2012
750mL bottle: Pours a hazy yellow with a thin white head that quickly dissipates. CO2 release is slow and steady with nice lacing and bubbles throughout. Aroma is of grapefruit and pinot grapes; bready malts. Taste is robust with nice citrus and pinot flavors. Smooth with a little bit, alcohol is well masked for such a big beer. Alcohlol becomes more prominent when beer warms. Easy to drink and with a nice fruity flavor would pair well with many foods. Great offering.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 JStax (834) - Devola, Ohio, USA - FEB 6, 2012
Bottle thanks to Weihenheizen. Thanks David. Poured into a tulip glass. Appearance is a hazy blond/yellow with a white head of foam. Somewhat nice head retention, but dissipates a little fast. Not much in the way of lacing. Aroma is wonderfully zesty and fruity. I love the Belgian influence in this one. The yeast really picks this beer up and carries it nicely. Taste is beautifully fruity and yeasty. I may have to ask for another bottle of this from David. I’m glad beer of this quality is finally coming out of West Virginia.
