COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bridge Road Brewers together with gypsy brewer Mikkel Borg Bjergsø of Mikkeller created a one off brew one Friday evening of March 2012. The result is The Dark Harvest. Inspired by the timing of the collaboration, it was decided to make a dark beer, using locally grown fresh hops. Of several research hops being grown at Rostrevor Hop Garden, one variety stood out for selection and was harvested just hours before being added to this beer.

330mL bottled 10/14/14 Deep ruby-highlighted brown body, holds a tan head. Muted aroma somewhat; rich maltiness, lots of toasted nuttiness and cocoa, with resiny hops, hints of tropical fruits & leafiness. Full body, oily texture, seems stronger than abv suggests. Quite intense - burnt malts, cocoa, burnt sugar & toast, with hop notes of ripe rockmelon, peach, paw paw, leaves & mown grass. Strong bitterness, drying finish. Full on beer, there’s some interesting hop character in there, but somewhat overshadowed by everything else going on.

Bottle from 2014. Aroma: Licorice, coffee and a bit esters. Nice black beer with a light brown head. Decent retention. Nice esters and lingering roasty flavours. The hop profile seems slightly overpowered by the yeast characteristics. Really like this bear, its fun and pretty tasty.

330mL, bottled 04/14. Pours opaque dark brown with a persistent off-white head. Aromas of plums and berries, toast. Lots of hoppy and burnt bitterness and acidity and not much else, maybe some smoke, a bit too dry. Not nearly as malty as claimed by the label. Medium body, above average carbonation and a long finish.

Bottle. This was apparently the less good of all the versions (2013, the ’piney’ version). It was still pretty good, but I’d like to try the ’choc-orange’ versions.

ALLOVATE (2466) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUL 2, 2014
An impressive beer from start to finish. It produces up a midnight brown with a big, whipped cream, cappuccino foam that trails a mean lace. Nose hints at twiggy bark, mocha and bitter/sweet roasted cocoa beans, tree resin, pine needles and smoky phenols. Similar in the mouth. A lean towards strong, roasted malts over hops proves to work well. Body is medium and it lingers oh so long between sips. Smoky, chalky and woody with huge roasted coffee and bitter, dark chocolate notes. Light note of stonefruit and citrus pokes out from underneath giving it a supple juiciness. Quite dry overall with just enough sweetness for complexity. Wow, this is good. Gets better as it warms. A smashing ale. Well done! (33cL, Bottled on 10/04/14, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

Bottled 10/4/14. Poured a very dark brown with a one- to two-finger light tan foamy head that retained well and laced well. Aroma of sweet fruity hops and chocolate malt. Taste of dark chocolate with a hint of roasted coffee with a citrus hops bitterness. Medium body. Creamy mouthfeel with coffee bitterness on the finish. Well worth trying.

A lot of everything. A bit of nut, some coffee, a tad of licorice, toast and malt. But none overpowers the other. Wonderful on palate. Like a lollie bag. A great dark beer that isn't too black. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle - pours black with a big off white head. Toasty malt , medicinal herb and nettles aroma and also good hint of citrus, lots going on in the aroma. Hops hit up front then the malt comes in before a nice dry bitter hop finish. Nicely balance mouthfeel.

Nutty flavours definitely come through, I dunno about wet-hopped beers, i don’t find them punchy enough?. It’s a good beer, nonetheless.
