4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours dirty dark brown with a tan head which lasts for the entire duration of the beer. Nose is full if vibrant ripe berries and oak with mild earthiness. Absolutely massive raspberry and blackberry on the aroma. Taste is very red wine forward with ripe berries, mild vanilla, huge toffee and citric tang in front of a vinous feel and melted toffee base. Very unique. Very good!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tasted side by side with its brother the Aurora Borealis 2 and some nice blue cheese. Deep reddish brown with tan head that lasted well. Dried plums, spice and cinnamon. Warming and luxurious mouth feel. Very enjoyable and contrasting to the Borealis which is aged in cognac casks.

A slow gusher. Slight hazy deep reddish-brown body, over a tanned head with short duration. Rich sweet malt nose. Notes of dark dried fruits, port and dried wood. Fat body, succulent texture. Big bitter-sweet malt base. Some fruity acidity underneath. A good deal of bittering hops is noticable. Strong barrel tones. Warming alcohol throughout. A very pleasant sipper.

Bottle bbe 17, a gusher Dark brown. Very lovely flemish red- like vinous acidicy on nose, but with a much fuller malt backing. Full soft bodied, oaky, vinous, but still malty, body. Feels a bit salty even. Really nice drink, intersting.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
2014-03-25. Dark, pretty black color. Large rocky head. Red wine and wood dominates the aroma. Almost like a sour ale, but without that bretty component. Cherry notes. Somewhat muddy flavor, but definite flavors of coffee, burnt wood. Some fruityness flying around in the beginning and in the aftertaste. Full body and very soft carbonation. Great balance, a hint of sourness and a backbone of bitterness with a sweetness coming through here and there. Interesting and different!

4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
From this tiny bottle comes a hazy deep sienna-coloured brew capped by a dense 3-finger-thick beige head that retains beautifully. Aroma is equally vinous and sour, with sweet oaky notes. The palate is sweetly malty, but is driven by the red wine notes and a pleasant sourness that is softened by the oak traits. Velvety in the mouth and very full-bodied, with no indication of the 11% ABV. The finish is lightly sour and dry. I was highly skeptical that this little beer would be worth the $18 I paid, but I needn’t have been-- it is a truly outstanding offering. It is amazingly complex and balanced and extremely drinkable, with a flavour set that highly appeals to my palate. The designation of Abt/Quadrupel seems a little strange to me as it most resembled a classic Flemmish sour brown, but then again, I am no judge of style-- I loved this beer!
