In Norwegian tradition alcoholic beverages are sent across the globe to benefit from the temperature variations one experiences when crossing the equator. This beer was brewed at Bridge Road Brewers in Beechworth, Australia. Maturation took place in red wine barrels on its journey to Norway. Blending and packaging was carried out by Nøgne Ø.

Editor’s note: Brewed at Bridge Road, bottled at Nøgne Ø. Shipped to Norway in barrels previously used for red wine.

Bottle 25 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Bottle # 11829. Pours a dark brown with a vague orange hue and a creamy and lacing beige head. Nose is woody, some brown sugar, overripe plums. Rich body, lowish carbonation, brown sugar, some coconut, figs and dates. An interesting and challenging Quad if it doesn’t exactly have the complexity of the best Belgians of this style. 180313

Brewed 20.12.12, best before 20.12.17, bottle 05341
It pours a dark brown color, not clean, with medium sized head, reducing quickly to a thin layer. The aroma is mild; there is some roasted malt with a vinous vein. Good body strength, round mouthfeel; it has a good flavor of pumpernickel, by having a combination of dark malts and mild sourness; the sweetness is moderate, it has a light red wine feeling and a light touch of liquorice and spices; the bitterness level is correct and the alcohol is well controlled.

It’s a very good beer; the maltiness is very rich; it reminds me of some Struise beer.
But the price tag (89kr for 25cl) is ridiculous; just because two breweries are involved, do they both want to earn a premium?
