3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 hawthorne00 (1852) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - OCT 16, 2011
Apparently the Bridge Rd version of Nøgne Ø India Saison. Growler. Cloudy gold with a modest white head. Aroma of grapefruit, white pepper, gooseberry, almonds. Quite light-bodied. Taste has some light dough, some stone and tropical fruit, lots of grapefruit and pepper. Touch of windex. Saison character is there but apart from the pepper it’s pretty subdued and a bit clean for me. Nice dry finish is bitter and spicy.

500 ml bottle bought at Spirits Crossroads. Poured a hazy straw body with a super super large foamy white head, it actually rose above my Hennepin glass by about an inch to two, gobs of lace everywhere. Aroma of funk, lemons, citrus, yeast, bubble gum, orange marmalade covered toast. Medium bodied with super soft carbonation, a dry finish and some lingering bitterness along with a hint of heat but that may be from the bitterness. Flavor of bad citrus fruits, funkiness, yeast, lemons, lemon zest, flowers, dry toast. Solid stuff here.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Pours a cloudy pale yellow with a lacing off-white head. Fruity, spicy, citrusy aroma - quite complex. Medium body, spicy tart fruit, very yeasty with a solid bitterness in the finish. Very different from the Norwegian version, but more of a Saison - although with a massive hop dose. 190412

Bottle. Thanks bluebetty. Pours muddy pale yellow with a small, staying, frothy, white head. Aroma has citrus, floral, oranges, crisp malts, light melon. Medium carbonation, fine dry and creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is quite sweet, malty, zesty oranges, citrus, mild bitterness, somewhat vinious. A fine drink, though I would probably prefer either an IPA or a Saison.

Bottled. A hazy yellow beer with a white head. The aroma has notes of spices, lemons, yeast, and a bit of brett. The flavor is sweet with notes of lemons, pepper, straw, yeast, and a bit of malt, leading to a dry spicy finish.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 ClubGonzo (2687) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAY 15, 2013
Bottle, courtesy of - and shared with - Maltmisjonen; cheers man! :-) Pours a clear pale golden body with a big foamy white head. Nose is sour lime peel, straw, bubble gum, hints of lemon and grapefruit. Taste is tart lime tones, straw, citric peel and some herbal-grassy notes in the finish. Moderate bitterness, medium body and carbonation. Much more on the saison side than its Nøgne Ø counterpart, which leaned more towards the IPA aspect. I think it lacks the freshness I got in the NØ version and also a bit on the taste-dimensional level (very citrusy but very little else is going on) but its still a pretty nice beer.
