To celebrate our 500th batch of beer we decided to have some fun and throw together a bit of a dogs breakfast,a smokey breakfast lager.Breakfast is a big part of our day at the brewery enjoyed between mash in and the boil.We have included many of our favourite breakfast foods in this beer, aside from smoked malt from Germany,we also added Carmen,s muesli, fruit toast Zoi coffee, tea leaves,Beechworth honey and maple syrup.Hands on small batch brewing ensures Bridge Road ales the real deal.

Not what you’d accuse of aspiring to value. $30 is top dollar for what seems to be a unremarkable, if well made, dark larger. Soft, mild milk chocolate, roast but not much else. Couldn’t pick the honey and coffee, and if it’s there it’s very mild. I do feel like I’ve been robbed!

On tap at Archive. Oil black with a creamy head and smokey aroma. Flavour is quite intense and there is cigar smoke left on the palate.

UPDATED: JUN 25, 2011 Much better than expected. The smoked malts dominate, but hints of tea and a residual sweetness come through as it warms. The body is of medium build and a little oily. Doesn’t blow me away, but is decent drinking and never becomes coy or overpowering. Definitely more a smoked beer than a dark lager though.

On tap at Biero. Great malty beer. Aromas of milk chocolate, smoke, caramel, grain, and liquorice. Taste is sweet, with light bitterness, and long length. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Dark brown, with a creamy head.

On tap at Harts pub. Pours balc with a large dense tan coloured head. Big aromas of roasted grain and some smoke. Very light toffee like sweetness as it warms. Some yeast fruitiness comes through also. Flavours are dominated by the roasted grain and the smoke. Medium mouthfeel. Not too bad.
