3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Davros (1021) - Melbourne, - JUL 24, 2009
Golden pour with a good-sized head, pity it didn’t last.
Quite a grassy aroma, with some sweet toasty malt and interesting nutty characteristics. Chestnut aroma can definitely be found if you know what to look for.
Flavours are not as interesting, chestnut characteristics are hardly noticeable. Very crisp and dry (very pale-lagerish). Some lemony hops and satisfactory but boring malt.
Carbonation is too sharp and prickly.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 mickmac (424) - Ngunnawal, AUSTRALIA - NOV 2, 2011
Bottle. Pours with a hazy pale gold-straw body and a small white head. Aroma-taste: nutty, woody-with a somehat sweet body and a biter spicey finish. Medium bodied.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 TheGrandMaster (2313) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 20, 2010
Bottle. Was quite dividing on the day I tasted it. I thought it was quite pleasing, the chesnuts giving it enough distinction to stand out from the usual bunch.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Stew41 (1457) - Woodend, AUSTRALIA - NOV 15, 2009
I’ve had this a few times and it fails to impress. Looks great with a big pure white fizzy head but the flavours seem to be a fairly dull lager interpretation. Like Davros I get some lemon on the nose and palate but really not much else. Thickens up a touch on the finish with some bitterness as well. Not good value at all.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 bluevegie (2926) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - APR 10, 2009
Coudn"t wait to get out of the bottle. Murky gold light brown body with a huge white head. Pick up the chestnuts pretty easy enough - they are right there from the start. Drank ok just didn’t turn me on.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 madquacker (867) - Canberra ACT, AUSTRALIA - MAR 11, 2009
Nice head. Tastes of flat pine with some sawdust. Very dry. A nice different brew.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 MBison (548) - Southern Highlands, AUSTRALIA - NOV 27, 2008
Bottle (330ml). Poured hazy bronze with a small, rocky, off-white head which was average lasting. Aroma was of sweet malts with leatherwood honey, mandarin, pineapple, almond bread and light notes of caramel. Flavor was a mild hop bitterness (somewhat earthy) with sweet biscuity malts, roasted hazelnuts, tangerines, pineapple, hints of blackberries and a dry finish. Light to medium bodied with lively carbonation, a dry mouthfeel and an average lasting finish.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Dredd (591) - Bentleigh, AUSTRALIA - OCT 23, 2008
Pour is amber with a moderately fluffy white head that dissipates quickly.
Aroma is slightly sweet toffee, flavour is malt driven and there seems to be some nuttiness in the background, but if I wasn’t told it was there I am not sure if I would know about it. Either way, the chestnuts seem to add something. The finish on this is quite good, nice pleasent bitterness from the Galaxy hops, but nothing too in your face.
Overall, I am quite impressed by this, it is well crafted and unique.
