UPDATED: DEC 1, 2005 Dark gold-light copper colour, clear, nice head. Smells (and tastes for that matter) a lot like Little Creatures. It has that floral, lychee, Nivea hand cream, US hop character I just can’t manage to get in my own APAs. It’s so similar to LC I wonder if they use a hopback. Icing sugar malt sweetness is overrun by big, prickly, herbal hop flavour with some vanilla and Brazil nuts in there somewhere. Bitterness is big and LONG with a quinine character. It finishes quite rough (not necessarily in a bad way but it doesn’t seem as classy) which is the only thing that really sets it apart from LC. It’s funny, just by looking at the bottles I had a feeling that this brewery’s beers would be good (and I was right!) - the only thing I can think is that the descriptions on the bottle made them sound like they knew what they were talking about.
RR: A bottle I suspect was from the same batch as my original rating (16/08/05.) Age hasn’t really done it any favours. Hop aroma is very much subdued, with a weird phenolic, almost roast malt-esque character throughout. Certainly not as bitter as it was either. This one was more of a typical, middle-of-the-road Aussie APA, unfortunately.

330ml Bottle. lovely tropical fruit aromas. subtle caramel malt flavours with a great hop bitter flavour, that lingers for some time.

Pale brown pour with a healthy cloud of sediment. Hoppy aroma profile with both local and Pacific Northwest characters that don’t overpower each other: passionfruit, citrus, mango, and a pineyness that seems to cut through as it warms. Light toasty malt beneath, but this is a hop show. Bitterness is medium; a touch less than its Little Creatures/Sierra Nevada brethren. Well attenuated and nicely carbonated. A contender for the best pale ale in the country. Very nice!

This pours with almost no head at all. It is a caramel colour and has hints of caramel in the taste. This is not too hoppy for a pale ale however it has a bitter after taste.

From a 330ml bottle on 12/7/2011. Pours a slightly cloudy golden, with a big head. Has a nice fruity aroma (esp passionfruit) with some yeast and bubblegum notes. Flavour wise, it’s a little less involving - just a bit of fairly non-descript fruity sweetness, followed by a quite decent hop kick. Not a bad drop.

Tap. This is a great APA. Aromas of grass, and grain. Flavour is long-lasting, and predominantly bitter. Velvety in the palate, and medium-bodied. Amber colour, with a creamy long-lasting head.

Bottle. Pours with a small average white head over a cloudy red gold body. Aroma of grapefruit and passionfruit. Subdued/modest piney-citrus taste. A full bodied-oily mouthfeel.

Pours hazy golden, white head. Nice fresh hop aroma - citrusy lemon.
The flavour follows suit with a clean body and zesty hops. A very to-style APA: tasty and refreshing.
