Ok, the concept for this beer is quite simple. Take our standard Bling IPA and pimp it to create a hop bomb at around 8.5% alc. The real challenge was creating an Imperial IPA that reeks of fresh, pungent hop aromas but doesn’t give the impression that it is trying to tear the teeth out of your jawbone. We do hope we got it right!

Pours hazy dark amber with a large, fading head. Lots of pine, grapefruit, caramel malt, booze and confectionery on the nose. Pretty aggressive flavours, lots of pine and resinous hops along with a massive serving of sweet clean malt. Finishes with an assertive bitterness. Body feels a bit too thick.

Big hop flavors, citrus, tropical fruit on top of a velvety sweet malt base that keep everything well balanced. Little dangerous at 8.5% and being so smooth and easy to drink.

I think my bottle may have not been sealed properly as it seemed to lack a little carbonation. Pours a dark cloudy brown with basically no head. Aroma is malt, fruit; passionfruit, caramel and hops. Taste is medium sweet of fruit, caramel and bread leading to a hoppy bitter finish. Good stuff, just hope it wasn’t too damaged by the seal.

Bottle from Plonk. Murky deep amber/brown, aroma of tropical fruit, passionfruit, toffee/butterscotch, flavour is big on hops and malt, well balanced, very drinkable. Really enjoying this one!

Light for an imperial at under 9% but the palate does carry decent weight with truckloads of sweet malt and hops. The former does win the battle. Very low fizz and perhaps to a fault as I found the beer a bit plodding in the mouth. Actually I quite like the low ABV and this is clearly well made but it does feel dull.

330mL bottle. Pours deep amber with a small off white head and a wonderful sweet tropical fruit/punch bowl aroma. As it hits the tongue I detect the massive bitterness that is tempered by an equally scaled sweetness. Tropical fruit dominates the flavour with a slight hint on toffee malt.

After a few sips, this beer reminded me a lot of the impressive, Dogfish Head’s 90 minute ipa, albeit less flavoursome and without much of a head. Still a good DIPA that is pretty well balanced.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2014 Bottle. Clear darkish amber, tiny light beige head hangs in there. Aroma of toffee, flowers, pine, grapefruit, nectarines. Slight window cleaner. Rather low carbonation. Toffee, stone fruit, kumquats, pine, pepper. Moderate but lingering bitterness and kumquats. Dangerously drinkable. Lovely balance. [3.7]

Another one from the Bridge Rd advent box. Can’t read the date but it’s ferociously hoppy. I guess the first batch did have a conditioning issue - this is much more highly carbonated. And it is plenty the worse for it: quite astringent at the end with harsh bitterness. [3.3] Averaging score.

UPDATED: JUN 7, 2013 Carbonation a little low on my example as it’s only been in the bottle a week or so.... I thought it was a perfectly balanced IPA. Great malt body with excellent hop flavours. Nothing overdone, just right.
