COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ok, the concept for this beer is quite simple. Take our standard Bling IPA and pimp it to create a hop bomb at around 8.5% alc. The real challenge was creating an Imperial IPA that reeks of fresh, pungent hop aromas but doesn’t give the impression that it is trying to tear the teeth out of your jawbone. We do hope we got it right!

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at Hilpeä Hauki, 20131001) The beer poured mahogany coloured and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, fruitiness and floralness. Palate was medium bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, fruitiness, malts, caramell and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, hoppy and bitter. This beer showed the typical problem of Double IPAs: strong hoppiness and high ABV result in somewhat glue-like overall impression.

ALLOVATE (2549) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - SEP 7, 2013
Tried this one back in April, so fresh as fresh. Produced up a murky brown in the shadows having a fiery red lustre only place when held to the light. Sudsy, messy wash atop holds well and leaves a thick lace. Piney, herbaceous, whole hop nose with plenty of bitter, underripe fruit, sticky dates in syrup, honey and caramelised berries coming through. Malt forward on the palate. The hopping ever present but restrained. There is a pronounced strawberry note, a touch of pine and resin late. Moderate bitter acme before some balance is shown in the finish. Biscuity, grainy and sweet mid-palate. A little chunky and clunky malt-wise; the body medium to medium-light. Alcohol remains a spectator, just drying out the finish. A floral musk ever builds as it warms. This one is just ’OK’, no greatness achieved. A forgettable brew unfortunately! (33cL, No. 731, Bottled 21/02/13, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

Maris (1118) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - AUG 8, 2013
From a 330ml bottle on 8/8/2013. Pours a very dark, slightly cloudy golden with a big white head. Has a sublime sweet floral aroma, with some light fruity notes. Flavour wise there lots of sweetness, with light caramel malt, honey and stone and tropical fruit (apricot and particularly mango). As one would expect from an imperial IPA, there’s a big hop presence, with a good does of grapefruit and resin finishing things off. Has a quite a syrupy texture and the carbonation is medium. All up this is very enjoyable, though be warned that the sweetness holds sway over the bitterness.

tap, Norfolk, WA citrusy, spicy and tropical aromas, similar flavours, well attenuated but with enough malty goodness to make it quaffable in winter, bloody good!

Davros (2229) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAY 12, 2013
Pours hazy dark amber with a large, fading head. Lots of pine, grapefruit, caramel malt, booze and confectionery on the nose. Pretty aggressive flavours, lots of pine and resinous hops along with a massive serving of sweet clean malt. Finishes with an assertive bitterness. Body feels a bit too thick.

Big hop flavors, citrus, tropical fruit on top of a velvety sweet malt base that keep everything well balanced. Little dangerous at 8.5% and being so smooth and easy to drink.

I think my bottle may have not been sealed properly as it seemed to lack a little carbonation. Pours a dark cloudy brown with basically no head. Aroma is malt, fruit; passionfruit, caramel and hops. Taste is medium sweet of fruit, caramel and bread leading to a hoppy bitter finish. Good stuff, just hope it wasn’t too damaged by the seal.

Bottle from Plonk. Murky deep amber/brown, aroma of tropical fruit, passionfruit, toffee/butterscotch, flavour is big on hops and malt, well balanced, very drinkable. Really enjoying this one!

Light for an imperial at under 9% but the palate does carry decent weight with truckloads of sweet malt and hops. The former does win the battle. Very low fizz and perhaps to a fault as I found the beer a bit plodding in the mouth. Actually I quite like the low ABV and this is clearly well made but it does feel dull.
