redgold07 (277), Fort Worth, Texas, USA May 1, 2008 Pours a dark black color with a hint of ruby. Aroma is nice and rich, dark, and sweet of lots of malt. Flavor is rich with caramel, molasses, coffee, chocolate, roast flavor and a slight hop bitterness, too.

Looks: Black and tan. Aroma: Chocolate, espresso, roast, wine. Taste: Smooth, flavorful at first, then a clean creaminess. A little hop on the tongue, more a feeling then a taste. Mostly brown bread aroma, with some burnt malt and dark fruit thrown in, but I’m not picking up any coffee or chocolate really (and I’m smelling the beer right now, as I type this review). On the palate, the fruit is coming forward to the point of overtaking the dark malts, distracting. The finish is quite bitter and astringent. The nose is a mix of toasted malts and burnt sugar. The mouth feel is slightly watery, the taste is a slightly bitter mix of chocolate, burnt sugar and roasted malts. I can really get the blackstrap molasses taste off the beer.
