hopdog (4374), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA May 9, 2008 22oz bottle. Poured a deeper amberish / brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of wood, a little earthy, dark fruits, toffee, and some boubon. Tastes of boubon, vanilla, caramel, dark fruits, and oaky woodiness. Light alcohol in the finish. Its not an ’in your face’ barley wine or barrel aged beers, but it is quite drinkable and I did enjoy it.
Sparky27 (415), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 17, 2008 Bomber courtesy of hopdog. Pours a murky swamp water brown with one finger tan head and crazy lacing. Nose is bourbon, dark fruits, caramel and brown sugar. Taste is bourbon, wood, raisins, caramelized sugar and a hoppy bitter finish which cuts the sweetness nicely. Medium mouth feel. Decent BW. Thanks Steve! kramer17801 (1844), sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 15, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours a clear amber to dark copper body with a small fizzy beige head. The nose is fairly unimpressive, just a bit of toffee malt and a slight bourbon booziness. Lots of alcohol vapors when you get right in there with your nose. Unlike a lot of bourbon beers, the bourbon in this is completely up front and the main focus of this beer. Heavy bourbon and caramel sweetness up front makes it taste more like candy than beer, and the bourbon just takes over after the initial taste and doesn’t let go. I don’t even like the bourbon flavor that this beer has, it tastes very much like it’s Jim Beam because of that weird spicy sweetness that it has. Medium bodied with a slight malty stickiness and a lingering bourbon heat, moderate soft carbonation. The longer the finish lingered on the worse that it got, so I kept taking gulp after gulp so that the finish didn’t have a chance to linger about. Not the best effort from these guys, but I’ll keep trying anything that they make anyway. MrBeerFanatic (185), jamestown, New York, USA Jul 5, 2008 Pours a darkish brown lightly cloudy with a off white head. Has the aroma of sweet hops a little alcohol and a hint of caramel. The flavor here is much like an IPA with flavors of hops but also a hint of caramel and the alcohol/bourbon does make it self known and almost to the point of overwhelming but not quite. Very bitter finish and semi sweet with a syrupy mouth feel that is rich. Somewhat complex and pretty balanced. rkuhnel (977), Eureka, California, USA Jun 28, 2008 From a 22 oz bottle with No. 012 on the front, this poured a very deep garnet color with a rich foamy off-white head with big bubbles that left virtually no lacing. Nose of caramel malts, grassy hops, and a hint of bourbon. Rich and almost oily mouthfeel. Flavor is dominated by by the rich malts, and the bourbon becomes more apparent but is still subtle. Great bitter hop finish. I drank this at cellar temperature - 55 degrees) and unlike most other raters I personally liked this one a lot. Ty5592 (1002), Hatfield, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 28, 2008 Bottle. Pours a medium clear caramel color with no head. Malty anroma with caramel and light wood notes. The taste was the same and NO bvourbon and sweet woody notes in the finish. Not bad, but it feels like false advertising.
