3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Disappointing. The label says "hoppy with a drizzle of roasted malt" and that is pretty much what you get. Unfortunately, the beer isn’t very balanced. The hops are too citrusy to be matched with this malt. I wouldn’t buy this again...

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle pours out dark brown topped with a sand head. Nose is roast some light chocolate earthy notes and a solid hop kick. Taste is more of the roast malts light sweetness and a well dosed hop.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark body, minimal head. Looks pretty much like flat coke. Nice aroma, mostly malts. Soft mouthfeel, not much of carbonation. Taste is somewhat dry. I can’t find a lot of hops here, it tastes more like porter to me. I like this beer though and can see myself buying it again. Usually not a big fan of the style.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
First "Dark Pale Ale" I’ve come across. Pours like a porter with no head. Smells of musty and dank hops with a strong cocoa presence on the malts. A hollow character to the nose - almost dry. Dark malts are stout like with some more earthy, catty hops. Almost like Old Raspy lite, but without the gusto needed to make such a great beer. Thin with moderate carb and off dry finish. This beer is another addition to the lexicon, but falls short of special.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark amber with a white head. The aroma is full of pine and resinous hops with some darker malt thrown in. The flavor is pine, resin, roasted malt and a light flavor that seems a bit reminiscent of trash. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A - Pours a dark chestnut brown with 1 finger of light tan head that creates tight-knit patterns of lacing.
S - Citrus and wet herbal hops, yeasty dough, creamy caramel, it has some earthy edges.
T -Lightly smoked sweet malt, cocoa is definitely present, pine and herbal hops provide plenty of flavor with an earthy bitterness. The cocoa rides through to the dry grainy finish.
M - Light to medium body, semi-coarse feel.
Love to see an ABA in a sixer! This is a good drinker. It’s not gonna blow you but it provides an ABA fix for a great price. Will buy again.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Single bottle. Poured dark with a slight red hue; big head and lots of carbonation. More malt than hops in the nose. Interesting taste, but I couldn’t get past what seemed to be a preponderance of roasted malt. Dirty, lingering finish. Fun idea, but not for me.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Poured clear and dark red-brown in color with a towering mixed density head. The frothy/creamy head was very durable but so large as to suggest over-carbonation. Tasting left the impression that this medium-bodied sample was indeed a bit over carbonated. The aroma was as expected for a beer marketed as a black pale ale: ample notes of dark malts together with (piney and herbal) hops. The flavor was largely as the aroma suggested, but a bit disappointing in that the hops made the beer a bit too bitter in relation to other aspects of hoppy flavors. The finish, nonetheless, was rather good, particularly as the bitterness faded allowing more of the other hop flavors and malt to come to the fore.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Sampled at GABF. Pours a watery brown with some creamy beige head. Fruity nose, pears, herbs, flowers. Sweet, malty flavor, chestnut honey, orange. Thin finish. Way too thin.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours very dark brown with off white head. The aroma is strange like a sweaty cheddar cheese sock with a musty grainy funky hop kick. The taste makes up for it a bit, earthy grainy must with a light spice and a barrage of a lot of hops. Big floral flavor with a touch of citrus bitter. For having so much in the brew it doesn’t quite translate. Not bad at all but nothing exceptional.
