A true Winter Warmer made in homage of the season: Full-bodied and rich, deep amber in color, crowned with a creamy head, and finished with a mild bitter flush.

Pretty good this year. Amber and opaque. Nice legs. A little bready flavor but the malt and caramel mix well with it which some don’t like but I love. Bitterness is almost perfect. Good winter warmer.

651 ml. bottle. Pours a medium thick, well retained, tiny bubbled ivory head, with slight lacing, over a clear, dark amber (SRM 15) body....nose is light toffee/caramel from the toasted malts, light dried fruits with hints of plum, raisin, no hops....taste is lightly sweet, with toffee/caramel hints, light dried fruits, finishing dry with hints of hop.....mouth feel, light of medium body, slight alcohol, light carbonation. This is a very light and simple example of the style. It need a great deal more in malt complexity and strength in both aroma and flavor. It is not a bad beer, just not a very good English Strong Ale. It really could use more caramel/crystal malts. BJCP 6/3/12/4/6

"man, i;d had this a couple times in years past and liked the malty, subtley spiced goodness...this year’s was overwhelmingly boring. no aroma, little body, little taste. what the hell is going on here? older versions at least a 3.4. currently a 2.4 at best."

Pours an amber color with off-white head. Caramel malt, butter, and a little spice on the nose: follows onto the palate. Finish lingers and is somewhat dirty.

12 oz bottle poured clear, red-amber with a very good head. Malty, very lightly spicy (perhaps just from hops). Chocolate by the finish, is quickly joined by a hint of coffee. Aftertaste is dominated by dark roasted malts. O: decent but unexceptional brown ale.

Decent beer. Malty aroma with some roasted essence. Woody brown color with a normal head. English maltiness with a subdued hops presence. Some roasted and caramel notes. Decent weight with some smoothness. Easy to drink and filling. Good for the season.

This is clearly the post-ghost Ebenezer; a warm, malty beer that pairs well with, fireplaces, couches and light snow. A great way to wait out the winter. Nose: caramel, bread, dough, vanilla. Color: dark amber, clear, with a tan, pillowy head. Warm, medium bodied, caramel, vanilla, with a hint of chocolate and slightly bready flavor, balanced with a trace of hops and spices. Lightly carbonated with a pleasant, full mouthfeel.

Nice and malty with s touch of spice (nutmeg?) , makes this a nice cold weather brew. Smooth, Aroma is malt and spice, taste is more of the same, dark amber/light brown with thin beige head, Just the right amount of spice makes this one of the better ones.

Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Firestone restaurant pint glass From: BevMo in Mission Valley (San Diego), Calif. Price: $14.99 for a BevMo variety 8-pack (w/ BevMo card) Purchased: Dec. 31, 2013 Consumed: Jan. 10, 2014 Misc.: N/A Poured a dark caramel brown semi-clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki white head. Good amount of circular foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Great retention on the top all the way down. Smelled brown sugar, caramel, toffee, roasted nuts and nutmeg. Some type of hops in there that balances the malts nicely, but couldn’t figure it out. . Tasted similar to the nose with brown sugar, toffee, caramel, nutmeg and roasty nuts. Very smooth. Medium body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth, somewhat warming finish. A pretty decent beer. Not quite a winter warmer for me, more like a winter lukewarmer, but good nonetheless.

On tap @ City Beer. Mahogany pour with an off-white head. Nose is sweet toffee and dark fruits such as raisin and plum. A decent caramel note, some light spice, and plenty of toast. Flavor is dominated by the sweet malt base. Lots of toffee and caramel. Heavy dark fruit character and a bit of syrup. A touch of spice and roast.
