3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 bhensonb (8991) - Woodland, California, USA - JAN 15, 2007
Light piny hop aroma, backed by some sweet malt. Very dark copper color with a vigorous beige head that laces a bit. Starts balanced: hop and malt arrive together. For me this is not a common experience. There is spice and a hint of dark fruit - but just a hint. Medium mouthfeel. The finish is light fruit with malt backing. Yet there is hop presence. Very good.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 JorisPPattyn (7306) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - NOV 7, 2002
Sweet taste, of liquorice rather than sugars. Some smokey, fading taste; malts but none too pronounced. Neutral mouthfeel, no new aftertaste. A Winter Warmer, this?

Amber pour. Off white head that disappeared quickly. Aroma is loaded with caramel malt, some light dried fruit notes and some earthy hops. Flavor starts sweet, caramel and fruit and finishes with a very light bitter, hoppy kick. Pretty good beer.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 CaptainCougar (7093) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - DEC 15, 2007
Pours a transparent ruby mahogany with a small, frothy, spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of lightly sweet caramely and grainy English malts with a touch of citrusy hops. Body starts with some foamy carbonation and piny hops toward a thinner, bittersweet finish with some earthy drier malts. An ok English strong ale, but could be a little sweeter.

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2003 Cask at the brewery. Dark glowing red with a frothy off-white head. Sweet cherries, nuts, nutmeg and allspice aroma, very sweet. Flavor is a sweet woody cherry. Not very spicey or hoppy in the flavor, just a mellow fruity winter ale. Nice.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ughsmash (6669) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 12, 2011
Bottled. Poured hazy reddish-amber with a sticky beige head. Caramel, chocolate, and iced tea on the nose with highlights of cloves and light detergenty notes. The flavor found deeper, aged caramel, molasses, and iced tea at the core.. spicy black pepper, clove, and nutmeg accents.. sweeter, nutty finish. Medium-bodied with just OK flow across the palate.. balance was solid. This was quite drinkable, but not great.
