Tap@Bridgeport. A definite English tasting ESB. Dry, bready with a lemony tang, a touch of toffee, well balanced, pretty tasty.

Cask Conditioned: Ruby crystal malt color, right around 60L looks like. Smoked hop aroma, full of wood and citrus. Well rounded and clean. Easy to drink with a perfect amount of hops that no one could say no to this. Slight hop bite in the finish. Overall this is a good ESB for all-purpose bitter occasions, even the occasional quaffing session.

Ernest (5183) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - FEB 3, 2003
Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is clear dark amber. Aroma is lightly malty (caramel, cookie, toasted light bread), lightly hoppy (flowers), light notes of diacetyl, orange, and peach, hint of alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly astringent. There's a somewhat complex aroma going on, but it's too darned light to be enjoyable. Apple-ish tartness is rather strong and off-putting.

Bronze to brown color with a small lid of ecru bubbles. Rich caramel, light licorice and mild alcohol attach the nose. Rich earthy malts and very milf fruit flavors. Finish is taken back by the hops with some mild tartness. A very strong ESB, but that is what they are advertizing.

Third beer sampled at Cellars LexLarp in St Paul, MN. History - Oregon’s first microbrewery. Opened in 1984 by Richard and Nancy Ponzi (wine makers). Purchased by Carlos Alvarez (Gambrinus Co of San Antonio, TX) in 1995. This used to be Pintail ESB in 1994 but was changed to BridgePort ESB in 1997. Pours a dark copper amber with an off white head. Aroma of sweet chocolate with floral hoppiness. Taste of hoppy malt with some berry tones. A sweet and mellow aftertaste.

Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a dark amber color with a medium thin and creamy bone white head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Mild hops and earthy malt in the nose. Medium, smooth body with flavors of resiny hops, earthy malt and fruit. The finish is biscuity malt with a touch of floral hops left behind. Decent overall.
