A refreshing extra pale ale, Haymaker features a distinct blend of four malts and three varieties of hops that create a slightly complex ale with a light body and a crisp finish. Its alcohol by volume of 5.3% complements the low bitterness - 15 bittering units - and original gravity of 12.8 degrees Plato. Bright golden in color, it can best be described as "sunshine in a glass."

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear golden color. Not quite the sunshine advertised but not displeasing either. For the low IBU count the taste is surprisingly hoppy. Smooth finish makes for a very easy drinker.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a golden-orange with a decent white head that lasts. Taste is of grain, grass, fruit, malt and some hops. Is a little sweet and bitter Similar aroma. Has a decent, chewy body. Very easy to drink, rather enjoyable and pretty refreshing on a hot day. Worth picking up again.

Bottle, bought at the brewery a few months ago. Deep golden colour, average white crown. Bready, sweet aroma with hints of chamomile. Biscuity malt, marzipan sweetness, nearly no bitterness. Not really in the APA paradigm, not true to the English pale ale style, more like a simple golden ale, and not a very good one at that.

Sunshine in a glass, baby. Or maybe not. This one was quite disappointing, a bready, yeasty beer without enough hop edge to even earn a place among the ranks of the APAs. Disappointing.

Tap at the brewpub. Pours light copper, not much head retention. Nose is of wurt, wooden hops and corn husks. I wouldn’t identify this as an APA by the aroma. Lots of husky European flavors like cracker, wooden bitterness are here. Was not my cup of tea

Hazy yellow color, small white head. Bready, slightly citrusy and grainy nose. Bready, pale malty flavor, a bit harsh finish. Palate is watery. There is some good points in this beer, but overall too light.

Bottled (thanks Kalevi Kurronen!). Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is bready malts, some slight yeastyness, and quite dull. Flavour is fruity, earthy a bit yeasty and quite dull.

[Bottle] Pours a clear golden color with a foamy head. Grassy hop and grain aroma. Sweet malts, honey, lemongrass and light hopping throughout. Better than expected body, but tastes rather simple.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours a clear golden color with a medium thin and fizzy white head that burns away quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Faintly floral Euro-hops aroma with a bit of malt. Light body with flavors of mildly spiced hops and sweet malt. A hint of grapefruit as well. The finish is mildly hoppy and short. Barely average overall.
