Our new Hop Czar® IPA series highlights the glory of hops. The first in the series, the Citra Dry-Hopped IPA adds a decidedly American twist to a British original. The complexity of the English malt is complemented by aggressive dry-hopping with Oregon’s Willamette Valley Citra hops, for this transatlantic, full-bodied IPA with an intensely aromatic character.

22 oz bottle bought from Fred Meyers in S.Salem. $3.39 Slightly hazy burnt orange coloured beer with a large creamy crème coloured head. Good fresh hop aromas here..lemon,slightly herbal and fruity nice stuff. Taste similar to the aroma..sweet and hops are drying, but nice again. Good palate..just about right..long lasting bitterness. OK IPA.

Bomber from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours rather orange with a slight white head. Lots and lots of citrus - . For aroma. Med body or better. Flavor is nice caramel and lots and lots of citrus. Light hop burn that burns brighter with time. This is yummy. Finishes pretty dry, pretty hoppy and pretty bitter.

Bottle from bhensonb. Pours cloudy golden with a thick off-white head and a musty aroma. There is a medium-bodied pale malt flavor with dry bitter finish. Easy to drink.

30th Anniversary special. Not as good as the original, but it is still superior to most.

Bottle into a glass. Golden amber pour, bit of white head. Light fruity aroma, bit of citrus, pineapple. Taste is just bitter and sweet at first, but eventually opens up a bit and tropic fruits and pineapple come through. Light bitter finish. Not bad, nothing special.

Wish they hadn’t decided to screw with something that wasn’t broken. Maybe the next in the series will be better.

12 oz bottle, thanks to Justin at Capones Hayden. Aroma is pretty vague, but there’s a little dough, vegetal notes, wet river rock. Pours hazy orange with a two finger off-white head with good retention, leaving some lace. Taste is bittersweet with a lingering bitter finish. Not getting much citrus or tropical notes at all. Seems like the hops are here for bitterness and that’s about it. Highly carbonated, medium body. Simple ale that could have been so much better. Still it’s not all that bad, just very ordinary.

Light copper pour, quick white head. Nose is fresh green pine. Bitter. Middle has a slightly oily mouth-feel. Tastes of earth and hard grain. Finish is long pine and spruce bitterness with bitter alcohol.

Bottle:   Sweaty hop aroma.   Hops remind me a bit of cat urine too.   A bit stale on the tongue.   Does seem a bit spicy tho.   Not a really hoppy IPA.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Pithy finish, a little aromatic but not bright.   Sometimes when I am drinking this I think of a really nice stew.   Its like some of the flavor profile is the vegetables as part of a stew.   Tasty, but not really belonging in an IPA.   A bit odd...

From bottle. Like Hop Czar, like Citra hops; this should be a slam dunk, but it somehow isn’t. Predictably bright, pungent nose with lots of fruit. A bit thin-bodied, pretty bitter and kind of flat. Lingering finish that is fairly pleasant. Pretty good beer, just not quite what I was hoping for.

Too bitter, too dry, too one dimensional. Not really feeling this one. Tasted like an IPA that the brewer left out a key ingredient, don’t quite know how to say it but it was off by a lot.
