I started my drinking sessions at the Great British Beer Festival 2009 with three IPAs from USA. All of them were served in a one-third pint glass from gravicask at USA & Rest of the World Bar provided by Bièrs Sans Frontières. This one had a remarkably clear, golden-amber body with a bubbly ring around the rim of the glass. Plain and pleasant hoppy to the nose. Initial taste of fruity hops followed by notes of pine-resin developing towards a fairly dry bitter finish. Rounded mouthfeel. Typical for the style, I would say (GBBF, Earls Court, London 04.08.2009).

Bottle, shared by Taylor. Hazy straw color with a small white head. Nose of grapefruit, earth, lemon. Flavor is bitter and grassy. Pretty classic version of the style.

Cask at GBBF 2009. Pours a light golden colour, good citrus aroma. Good example of a American. Still a clean and refreshing beer. Good effort.

Cask Conditioned Gravity Dispense GBBF 09. A clear golden coloured beer. The aroma has hops but is quite refined. A bit of lemon and pineapple in there. The taste is a bit lemony with biscuity notes. Drinkable but is more akin to a slightly dull English golden ale than a full on US IPA.

Cask@GBBF2009. Golden colour, not much head. Aroma is hops, nectar, some spices and quite strong fruityness as well. Flavour is fruits, wood, earth and also some slight fruity notes.

Cask (gravity) at GBBF 2009, Day 1. Just what was expected from a US IPA - that is to say plenty of leafy hops, citrus and pine notes, without being an overblown hop monster (not that I have anything against overblown hop monsters). Mouthfeel is quite light, leading in to a fine, bitter finish and lingering bitter aftertaste. Definitely a success in cask and an improvement over the bottle from what I recall, although I don’t seem to be able to locate my notes for the bottle.
