Pours medium-golden, fairly cloudy with an off white medium thick head, dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing around the glass. Cascade hops in the nose, along with typical characteristics: a very strong candied orange, dried orange peel, floral and a little musty. Taste is clean malt, a small amount of light caramel sweetness balanced by a decent but not overpowering amount of bitterness which finishes with a light floral characteristic. It reminds me of a slightly strong pale ale, maybe not enough to be called an india pale ale, but a step up from most and it strikes a keen balance between malt and hops. Compared to most ipas which tend to lean more toward hops with a higher abv, this would be a fine example of a lower abv, medium bodied, but well balanced ipa. It won’t knock your socks off, but it’s a classic example of the style and for that I give it kudos.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 sailracer (190) - Massachusetts, USA - NOV 29, 2011
Bottle. Pours a medium yellow with small head. Flavor and aroma is hoppy without being super bitter. There is a lot of citrus flavor and a smooth finish. Very good overall.

Golden elixer with a white, frothy head. Aroma is very fresh with lots of herbal and floral notes. Taste is a symphony of West coast hops bitterness. Juicy, resinous, and slightly astringent. Malt sweetness fades deeper into the background with each sip as the hops build upon each other. This is a great IPA. Its bitterness lingers indefinitely on the tongue, triggering a buildup of saliva that urges me to take another drink, and another, etc. Nowadays it seems like IPAs are a dime a dozen, causing me to lose interest in the style, but this old-school classic has totally revived my interest.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 cmonster (611) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 15, 2011
Hazy orange with a medium sized head. Caramel, chocolate maltiness as well as light citrus. Smells a bit like a blueberry muffin with some barnyard skunk. Light-med sweet and bitter. Medium body, malty thick texture and a hoppy astringent finish. Not a fave.

Yellow with a good head. Lots of hop aroma along with pine and citrus in the taste. Weak IPA

somewhat-cloudy yellow with white head. aroma is a tart herbal/weedy hoppiness. Flavor is in the same territory, light bitterness, grain. light-to-medium body, rather drinkable. A little bit of gin botanicals. Interesting, perhaps it’s from the Ahtanum hops. Goldings are supposed to contribute blueberry, and I definitely get a little now that I’ve read that. Cool beans.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 JoePeesie (578) - Long Lake, Illinois, USA - SEP 23, 2011
Pours a yellow gold, little head. nose is a bit blah and of hay. Dry crisp fairly uninteresting. Not something worth seeking out.
