3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 thoreaubred (42) - Seattle, Washington, USA - SEP 6, 2005
Compared to darker beers there really isn’t much to day about pale ales. Either they taste good or they don’t. The ratings speak for themselves. This is drinkable but nothing special.

Draught. Pours a cloudy orange-yellow. Aromas of hops and fruity esters. The flavors are almost exclusively peaches and hops. The finish is something I can only describe as wooly. Good, but a bit on the fruity side.

Pours a hazy light orange/copper with a lasting head. Aromas of grapefruit and pine. Nice hop bitterness. Oily mouthfeel. Warming alcohol dances on the tongue. Nice bitter finish.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 ABUSEDGOAT (1937) - California, USA - SEP 2, 2005
Bottle thanks to my dad. Pours a hazy amber body with a small head. Huge fruity/citrusy aroma with the hops. Nice malt balance here. Carmel in the flavor as well, feels slightly syurpy, which is what I like in an IPA. Usual hop bitterness with fruity grapefruit flavor there as well. Hint of citrus. As it warmed it started to fall apart (as expected) but cold and cool this was great.

UPDATED: FEB 8, 2006 Ehhh, this beer is like a hybrid of a lame European IPA and a good hoppy American IPA. Rather full-bodied and you don’t really want more than one of them at a time. Worth a try but not a 6 pack

Bottle poured a hazy copper with an offwhite head. Aroma was floral with some carmel notes. Flavors were carmel, floral and a bit of citrus with a moderately bitter finish.

Cloudy orange color with a medium head. Very nice floral hop aroma. It has what I would call a perfect balance of hops for an IPA. It’s obviously more bitter than session beers, but it’s no where near the "let’s cram as many hops in this bottle as possible" plan that most IPAs suffer from. Very creamy body. Wonderful treat.

Smells good, but looks like a yellow murky wheat beer! Man it tough to mess up an IPA in my opinion, and while this is more citrusy than you’d expect and it doesn’t truly excel, its still quite good.

This is a good light NW style IPA. Used to be one of my favorites but has dropped out of rotation these days. I had this on draft at Old Chicago’s...btw, much better on draft than out of the bottle. Golden color with a healthy hop aroma. Refreshing taste with a nice bitter bite at the end. I need to get this more often since the price is right.
