KINGPIN is a full-flavored, red-colored ale that uses a rarely-grown Willamette Valley Hop varietal known as Liberty Hops from fourth generation hop farmer John Annen of Annen Bros. Farm in Silverton, Oregon. Jeff and his team of brewers also used rye and caramel malt leading to a unique flavor profile; triple-hopped for bitter aroma and a unique dry-hopped character.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a very dark amber with about a half finger of white head. Aroma of pine and citrus with a hint of caramel. Taste is medium bitter and light sweet. Lots of pine and citrus with a little caramel. Medium bodied with a sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, pretty good. I would drink this one again.

On tap at local restaurant, pours a dark copper with a thin off white head and spotty lacing, the aroma is heavy on the caramel and malt with a tad bit of hop presence, the flavor is mostly sweet with the caramel and malt taking over with a slight amount of citrus and hops in the finish, really boring through out the entire drink, meh.

Bottle from Friar Tuck in Peoria, IL. Mostly clear reddish amber pour with a spotty white head. Mild caramel, and a heavy dose of artificial sweetener. Ooff, the sweetener. This isnít very drinkable.

Tap. Copper with cream head and lacing. Had almost a floral note plus honey and citrus and grain. Lightly sweet then balanced with a dry finish. Light dry finish.

Aroma is citrus, slight pine and mild sweetness. The flavor is grapefruit, citrus, an undercurrent of malts, fruit and a long and bitter finish.

Red color.....duh. Aroma is caramel and pine. Itís a bit flat, and the body is thin like its been puking up dinner for a modeling job.

Beautiful dark amber color, hazy, with small head. Tere is some caramel aroma, but itís too simple. The caramel flavor is quite good, a bit chewy; the hopping is medium strong, some fruity character (apricot) and mild resins.

Light on the hops. Hardly any head. Enjoyable, yet somewhat disappointing for lack of hops.

12oz amber-tan color. Respectable off-white head..steady. While there is some faint resinous hop aroma, its pretty tame for a double or triple anything. Very grounded in malt, a decent Amber I suppose, but just not that hoppy. Balanced, yet apparent big American-style ingredient overload. The rye shows up in the finish, stealing the show. Not bad by any means, just a little more subdued and bland than I was hoping it would be.
