COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
KINGPIN is a full-flavored, red-colored ale that uses a rarely-grown Willamette Valley Hop varietal known as Liberty Hops from fourth generation hop farmer John Annen of Annen Bros. Farm in Silverton, Oregon. Jeff and his team of brewers also used rye and caramel malt leading to a unique flavor profile; triple-hopped for bitter aroma and a unique dry-hopped character.

Bottle, cloudy red amber color with a thin off white head. Aroma is creamy caramel malt and a bit of dark fruit. Taste is toffee malt up front and dark sugar up front and a light herbal bitterness. Medium to full bodied with a creamy palate and a long citrusy finish. It’s a good ale.

I'd be mad if I had to pay 6 bucks for a pint of this. It's a pretty mediocre beer. Not what I thought for an imperial but not bad.

Rated based on notes taken 25 Mar 2012 -- A truly wonderful beer. My two years later tastes have changed. Still a good beer.

Keg at the brewpub, PDX, 09/11/14. Clear rich amber with a moderate off white covering that soon dissipates to a swirl. Nose is toffee, dark malts, sugars, spice, caramel. Taste comprises much the same, pretty one trick pony. Medium body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with lghtly warming alcohol. Ok, but for style and ABV not a lot doing, lacks depth and complexity.

On tap poured a cloudy orange-brown hue with large frothy beige head. Moderate sweet malty rye aroma. Initial flavor is moderate sweet w/ a bold bitter finish of ling duration. Tastes are rye, caramel, brown sugar, hay, and pine. Full bodied. It may be one of the longest lasting finishes of any beer I've had. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Great hoppy aroma, nice bitter finish and a little spice on both the nose and the palate. Gets better as it warms ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I don’t normally go for North American brews - I find most of the quality ones are simply a scrap over who can stuff the most hops into a single bottle, often at the expense of any real balance. There are some craft brews that play to the hop crowd, but don’t neglect balance - this is one of them. The aroma is like that of a fresh floral garden, backed by a citrusy zest. The beer pours a deep amber-red colour, and presents quality lacing that persists throughout the pour. The flavour and palate are, as to be expected, hop-dominant, but not to the exclusion of a solid malt palette in the background. I cannot honestly say that I can distinguish that this brew was hopped three separate times, but the rich citrus and floral notes from the nosing certainly carry through in the glass. A very strong beer, best enjoyed as an accompaniment to a heavy meal.
