KINGPIN is a full-flavored, red-colored ale that uses a rarely-grown Willamette Valley Hop varietal known as Liberty Hops from fourth generation hop farmer John Annen of Annen Bros. Farm in Silverton, Oregon. Jeff and his team of brewers also used rye and caramel malt leading to a unique flavor profile; triple-hopped for bitter aroma and a unique dry-hopped character.

Clear medium to dark orange amber colour with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate hoppy, orange - citrus, candy, flowers, light yeasty. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, burnt caramel, light yeasty. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110622]

Interesting aroma, caramel, heavy malt, sweet almost except for the hops showing through. Appearance is a nice red. Taste is again interesting. Initially very malty almost sweet then finishing with a more hoppy bitterness. Overall a little different and not bad at all.

Bottled. Pours a clear red with a rocky white head. Fruity aroma with phenolic notes behind caramel sweetness. A bit sweet, with some herbal characteristics. Bitter ending that intensifies as the beer warms.

Clear deep copper color, steady creamy beige head. Light fruity-berryish aroma. Suprisingly light body for this ABV and OG. Fullers-like nutty, snappy flavors. Caramel and some alcohol. Quite English, like UK style strong ale.

Pours amber with a tall head that lingers nicely. Mild aromatics. Full nectar with excellent carbonation. Good flavor of malt, not too heavy and mildly bittered. I get a little bit of pine about mid way. Finish is dry and smooth. A very easy beer to get down for it’s strength.

Aroma of toffee, fruit, pine. Taste is decent, but kind of strange, mostly hoppy but also quite sweet.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden deep amber to orange with a small off-white head. Aroma is mild yeasty, phenolic, spiced and herbal hoppy. Caramelish sweet, mixed with phenols and solid bitter to herbal hoppy notes. Ends bitter and dry.

12-oz bottle. It poured a clear orange body with a respectable light beige head that provided loads of lace. The aroma had sweet dried fruits covered heavily by musty floral scents. The flavor was fruity with a dollop of caramel and an earthy bitterness that strengthened in the dry finish. Definitely a brew that I’d drink more of.
