3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jmohno (831) - Iowa, USA - OCT 1, 2011UPDATED: NOV 8, 2011 Wow,low ratings. This is a nice roasty red ale-maybe people dont know what a red ale i s suppose to be like.
Right away aroma is very malty sweet with english, some hop-herbal spice aroma type Mineral aroma after the short malt aroma.Flavor is classic red ale pretty roasty and bitter towards the end,hop flavor is robust very grassy bittering. With the caramel you get a almost burnt like carmel with a robust hop bitter med-light body and dry with a pronounced dark bitter(Maybe the hops) finish.I didnt get much of a hop aroma but alot of it in flavor and bittering. Pretty good red ale.Lots of yeast floaties and hop aroma has lost its way probably from shelf life.
Overall its a pretty herbal bittered beer with a very dry robust dark /burnt roast taste going on with maybe some clashing citrus. This is slightly not decent, there is this love/hate thing about this beer. I think maybe the finish has this odd citrus burnt bitterness also, like a dark burnt roasted citrus, kind of harsh and odd,but not bad at the same time.

Looks like a pot of honey, no real head, just an off white ring of lace.
The aroma is massive, big fruits, banana, pine and bread dough.
Taste is quiet sweet, bready, lots of stone fruit, some tropical tones. A nice pine resin is noticeable alone with the rye bitterness, the mouthfeel is medium, but leaves a nice buttery coating on the mouth.
The finish is nicely bitter an combination of earthy hops and roasted malts, overall a nice easy drinking beer, given its alcohol.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 islay (740) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAY 2, 2013
12 oz. bottle. Tart, floral smell features biscuit, apricot, caramel, and cherry scents. Smells like Febreeze. Pours a clear amber/copper with a small amount of beige/taupe/cream-colored head. Light to moderate effervescence. Pretty good lacing. Startlingly dry taste features biscuit, licorice, pretzel, mineral, and light cream flavors. Low in flavor aside from the massive hops bitterness/dryness that comes through. Long, very dry aftertaste. Medium body. Lively in the palate. Easy to drink. Ordinary palate effects aside from the strong and mostly enjoyable aftertaste. I was hoping for more from this brew, as it’s my kind of beer stylistically, and it’s certainly not bad, but it’s extremely unbalanced.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 sudsmeister (61) - Colorado, USA - MAY 1, 2013
This is an underrated beer that I often find on special for 6 bucks a sixer. It has a good hop/malt balance and is easy on the tongue. It makes a good chaser for the bourbons I like.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 jebert (405) - Watertown, Wisconsin, USA - APR 25, 2013
Pours a reddish amber with a small tan head. Nose is hoppy with some malt evident. Very creamy on the palate. Hops dominate the flavor profile with a malt backbone. A good tasting beer that pairs well with sandwiches such as burgers or snacks like nuts or chips.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ComradeK (732) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - APR 25, 2013
355ml bottle. Pours a hazy ruby chestnut, with a medium off-white head, which lasts well, and leaves decent lacing. Rich toffee malt mixes with pine resin and floral hops in the aroma. Strong pine needle and resin hops up front lead into bitter grapefruit. This is smoothed out by toffee malt in the mid-palate, with some nutty flavours coming through towards the finish, which has some resurgent grapefruit hops, and leaves a nicely bitter aftertaste. This is a nice, hoppy red ale, with a deft balance between potent hops and smooth, supple malt.

Red-amber with a fluffy white head. Aroma is full of grass and toffee. The flavor is similar. I get a lot of grass and toffee notes as well as some metallic notes in the aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
