KINGPIN is a full-flavored, red-colored ale that uses a rarely-grown Willamette Valley Hop varietal known as Liberty Hops from fourth generation hop farmer John Annen of Annen Bros. Farm in Silverton, Oregon. Jeff and his team of brewers also used rye and caramel malt leading to a unique flavor profile; triple-hopped for bitter aroma and a unique dry-hopped character.

quite an alarming smell- like cold brandy .. great foam, pretty damn good lacing also .. . dark murky tan .. . nicely balanced, a bit from both sides .. . pretty good actually, a touch boozy but pretty drinkable .. .

I caught my wife in bed with my best friend.
You bitter?
Yeah, bit HIM too!

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. A big dry dusty caramel malt nose. The flavor is very dry, fruity berries, some dusty caramel and malt, light bitter finish.

Nose has notes of caramel and a good dose of iced tea. Some rye pokes through as does some spicy hop notes. Light fruity notes also. Pours amber, well filtered, a bit of head for a little while. The flavor has notes of iced tea throughout, light caramel, some spicy hops, a little earthy, bitterness level is light to medium. A touch herbal. Not my favorite.

Red-amber with a fluffy white head. Aroma is full of grass and toffee. The flavor is similar. I get a lot of grass and toffee notes as well as some metallic notes in the aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

(12oz bottle thanks to mar) clear medium copper, creamy tan head. Nose of caramel, light citrus hops, laffy taffy, banana, and slightly funky. Taste of umami, sweat, salty, bitter and really pretty gross. Old dishrag and dirty water. Metallic finish, slightly creamy but the herbal bitter linger reminds me of a hot tea bag that’s been squeezed out. Not good.

Bottle: Pours a nice tawny color with sticky head and thick lacing. The nose is sweet and piny with some nice clean light hops and chewy caramel and candy sugar malts. The flavor is spicy with a light maltiness but not much for hops. Seems like a properly hopped pale ale, but Imperial Red, not so much. Big mouthfeel, but not that much for malts. A little thin.

12-oz bottle. It poured a clear orange body with a respectable light beige head that provided loads of lace. The aroma had sweet dried fruits covered heavily by musty floral scents. The flavor was fruity with a dollop of caramel and an earthy bitterness that strengthened in the dry finish. Definitely a brew that I’d drink more of.

Draught (nitro) @ Hawthorne Hophouse. Rated on 11.07.2012
Aroma is sweet with fruits, peaches and honey. Flavour is hoppy with resin and some peaches. This has some hops that linger in my mouth for a long time and they do not feel nice.

Savannah, Ga - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 12 oz bottle. Dark copper pour, sticky off-white head. Hoppy, bitter aroma wit soem decent aromatic pine notes. Flavor has a nice solid bitterness to it with some underlying spiciness. Juicy grapefruit bitter notes, some syrupy maple notes. Thickish mouthfeel. Just this side of decent.
