COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
KINGPIN is a full-flavored, red-colored ale that uses a rarely-grown Willamette Valley Hop varietal known as Liberty Hops from fourth generation hop farmer John Annen of Annen Bros. Farm in Silverton, Oregon. Jeff and his team of brewers also used rye and caramel malt leading to a unique flavor profile; triple-hopped for bitter aroma and a unique dry-hopped character.

12oz bottle that I could tell was at the correct temperature just by placing my finger on it and actually touching it. This beer clearly lacks a slick gimmicky label scheme to relieve me of the need to actually touch the bottle, . . . ICK!! Well, it pours clear amber with a rutty red tint and white head. The aroma has bold sweet dark fruity esters, some caramel candy and a sense of earthiness. The taste delivers prunes, cherries and some raisin. These notes mix with some roasted malts, some chocolate malts and a bit of earthiness. I also get a bit of spicy hops here and there too. Seems like an estery old school brew.

Bottled. Poured cloudy, medium orange with a short, tight-bubbled beige head. The aroma picked up pineapple and redder fruits over a caramel and nutty base.. the fruit worked the hardest, and it was solid. The flavor found similar stuff.. lightly sour and somewhat bitter pineapple and fruity notes over caramel and some apricot meat.. finished grainy and bitter, with a little alcohol warmth. Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation on the palate.. it lost focus somewhere around the middle.. just OK overall.

Draught (nitro) @ Hawthorne Hophouse. Rated on 11.07.2012
Aroma is sweet with fruits, peaches and honey. Flavour is hoppy with resin and some peaches. This has some hops that linger in my mouth for a long time and they do not feel nice.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. A big dry dusty caramel malt nose. The flavor is very dry, fruity berries, some dusty caramel and malt, light bitter finish.

"looking at the other reviews, sounds like this one might not be old like i thought, just a little on the bland side for a "triple hopped double red ale". a little orange-ish citrus and caramel malt. a little thin for the abv. not bad, but a little dsiappointing after the build-up. About average for a red."

quite an alarming smell- like cold brandy .. great foam, pretty damn good lacing also .. . dark murky tan .. . nicely balanced, a bit from both sides .. . pretty good actually, a touch boozy but pretty drinkable .. .

I caught my wife in bed with my best friend.
You bitter?
Yeah, bit HIM too!

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white to light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (apricot, grapefruit), with notes of diacetyl and black tea. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter, slightly unclean. Medium to full body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic, lightly astringent. All but ruined by a buttery nose and a dirty, sour mouth experience. Poor.
