COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
KINGPIN is a full-flavored, red-colored ale that uses a rarely-grown Willamette Valley Hop varietal known as Liberty Hops from fourth generation hop farmer John Annen of Annen Bros. Farm in Silverton, Oregon. Jeff and his team of brewers also used rye and caramel malt leading to a unique flavor profile; triple-hopped for bitter aroma and a unique dry-hopped character.

Bottle. Triple hopped, double red sounds a little gimmicky, but coming from Bridgeport it was worth a taking a flyer on. Very attractive deep copper with about a half-finger of tan head that hangs around throughout. Superb lacing. Nose isn’t unpleasant but underwhelming for a triple hop. Taste is remarkably crisp and clean for a red and finishes with a nice little kick. One of my favorites of this style. The nicely cloaked 7.5% abv is a bonus.

Hazy cara-amber with a sticky lacy medium tan cap. Aroma is fruity with caramel, rye, toffee and citrus. Taste of toffee, caramel, fruit, citrus and finishes up moderately bitter. Malty with a nice hop zest.

355ml bottle. Pours a hazy ruby chestnut, with a medium off-white head, which lasts well, and leaves decent lacing. Rich toffee malt mixes with pine resin and floral hops in the aroma. Strong pine needle and resin hops up front lead into bitter grapefruit. This is smoothed out by toffee malt in the mid-palate, with some nutty flavours coming through towards the finish, which has some resurgent grapefruit hops, and leaves a nicely bitter aftertaste. This is a nice, hoppy red ale, with a deft balance between potent hops and smooth, supple malt.

Deep amber/red moderate cloudy. Nice lacing. Sips full with slight caramel and hop flavor. Nicely balanced brew with a higher abv. Sneaky strong!

Purchased at Market of Choice in Ashland, Oregon, the poured a rich amber with a medium sized beige head and good lacing. Nose. is malty with floral hops. Medium body and smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is rich and full of interesting character wit malts, rye, flowers, and there is a nice bitter finish. Lots to like here.

Clean "New Car" aroma that’s very appealing in a strange way. Pours a clear reddish copper color in the glass. Flavor is a really nice balance of straight up bitter hops and malty goodness. It actually acquires maple and citrus notes as it warms in the glass. Overall its more reminiscent of an ESB... delicious and awesome.

I poured a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. The beer is is orange-red with a thick foamy off white head that hugged the glass. It smells like a fruitcake, sweet and fruity with a hint of caramel the most dominant aroma of fruit is peach, I couldn’t single out the rest. The taste is sweet then bitter with flavors toasted malt, bread, lemon and pine. This is a thick, full-bodied beer with soft carbonation and a dry finish. I’m glad I picked this one up, it’s very well rounded and I’ll have no problem finishing the 6-pack.

Rich amber color. Lasting off white head. Malty and maple nose. Flavor is bitter, sweet, molasses and maple but the hop bitterness dominates. Moithfeel has a good bite and texture. Decent lacing on the glass. Nice punchy finish.

12oz bottle that I could tell was at the correct temperature just by placing my finger on it and actually touching it. This beer clearly lacks a slick gimmicky label scheme to relieve me of the need to actually touch the bottle, . . . ICK!! Well, it pours clear amber with a rutty red tint and white head. The aroma has bold sweet dark fruity esters, some caramel candy and a sense of earthiness. The taste delivers prunes, cherries and some raisin. These notes mix with some roasted malts, some chocolate malts and a bit of earthiness. I also get a bit of spicy hops here and there too. Seems like an estery old school brew.

Toasty and rich with a moderate amount of sweetness (brown sugar, nuts, toffee and toast) and a healthy amount of hops to boot (earthy, herbaceous, grassy). In the end, a malty sweetness prevails, though. Slightest nip of grapefruit in the background. Solid, cozy beer.
