COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Generous amounts of NW pale, caramel and chocolate malts were blended with English Goldings kettle hops and Willamette Valley Cascade and Chinook Hopjack hops. It was brewed in small batches, fermented, and then aged on American white oak. The oak aging imparted caramel and vanilla flavors to complement the bold and smooth malt flavors and unique hop character of this true NW ale.

Robust aroma is crisp and malty with an overtone of fresh oak and a fairly firm alcohol bite. Pours a dark honey-amber with a thick, fluffy and rather persistent wheat head. Richly malty flavor has an oaken note, an edgy alcohol bite, and hints of hops, caramel and vanilla. Texture is smooth and firm, though lacking in fizz - but experience says that barleywines as a rule ain’t fizzy. Enough of this, and you will be an old knucklehead. ;0)

Ruby red put with a thin head that fades quick. No lace. Aroma of oak and cherry. Hints of candy. Taste is strong and full of vanilla, cherry and wood. Creamy mouth and very drinkable for 9.2%. A fine beer for the style.

No. 013 Bottling from a 22 oz bottle. Thin head on a hazy, copper colored body. The aroma is rich and deep: grain, bread and woody, like oak. The taste is complex. It starts out woody, deep malt sweetness, bitterness in the middle, finishes candy sweet. Smooth texture, low carbonation and heavy body. A complex and deeply flavorful beer.

On draught at St. Johns Winter Beer Festival. Definitely tame for a barleywine, with a mellowed hop presence. Pleasing malt taste though.

Tap @ Holiday Ale Fest 2012... Poured deep amber with a beige head. Dark malts and noticeable hops on the nose. Some bitterness with leafy, herbal, earthy hops and a thick malt sweetness. A little drying towards the finish. Not much of an oak presence in this oak aged version. Still, a nice barleywine.
