Ungstrup (11930), Frederiksberg, Denmark Feb 17, 2005 Updated: Jun 5, 2008An amber beer with a disappearing off-white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of alcohol and oranges. The flavor is sweet with lots of alcohol that burns the tongue, but also notes of wood and caramel. Too simple for my liking. Papsoe (11421), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 14, 2006 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Vintage 1999. Very unclear amber golden with a small, off-white head. Malty, caramelish aroma. Full-bodied with lots of caramel and some delicate sherry like accents. Very subdued bitterness. Lovely. omhper (11027), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 15, 2005 Bottled. Clear amber, viscous, not much head. WHiskey arom aof oak and alcohol. Salty with some toffee. Kind of light bodied for such a big brew. Alcohol gives a burning sensation. Long bitter finish. Oakes (7047), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Feb 8, 2003 1999 vintage, rated 2003
Dark amber-orange; aroma is typical of barley wines this age - toffee, chocolate, molasses, with slight band-aid phenols. Rich complex malt profile - earth and pine included. Solid and serviceable, as it's always been. argo0 (6332), Washington DC, USA Dec 14, 2002 1999 version. Deep amber, slightly cloudy, minimal head. Aroma is sweet, slightly vinous, rich. Taste is straight-up barleywine -- sweet (somewhat fruity), big hoppy beer, with loads of malts balancing things out. Good alcohol burn on the swallow.
