COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smooth Ryed has an appetizing mid-range amber color with an aroma that is derived from a pound per barrel of whole Centennial hops in the hopjack, kettled by UK Kent Golding pellets. Smooth Ryed is brewed with a variety of malts, including a spicy rye and chocolate malt.

Pours a red’ish gold with little head, much more pleasant nose than I was expecting given some of the reviews. Very chuggable session beer with a light body but a zinger of an aftertaste. The aftertaste is what hurts it, but luckily it’s very short lived. As far as rye beers go, Sierra Nevada’s Ruthless Rye is still the one to beat. This one falls short, specifically in the danky aftertaste. Not upset it’s in my pick-6, but had I gotten a 6’er I wouldn’t be so happy about it. This will not be a repeat purchase, too many better choices out there. Not a drain poor, but a chore to drink.

An amber colored ale, with not a whole lot going on in the aroma, a little spice but that’s about it. Some hops come through on the palate, floral, and some of the spice from the rye give it a little backbone, but overall, I’m not sure this beer knows what it wants to be.

Bottle from Five Points Bottle Shop (Atl Hwy). Rich sweetish caramel, tropical fruit, and some pepper in the nose. Copper color, fine head. Thin caramel initial / touch of sweet fruit: strawberry and cherry / a bit of pepper in the finish. Thin-medium body. Fine, mild flavors. The rye adds a little body, but less pepper than I expected.

pours a amber color with a medium sized head. you pick up the rye in the aroma and lots of earthy smells. there is some fruityness in it as well. the taste was sort of a let down i expected more. the rye taste is there but its unusual in a way.

Bottle. Amber beer with a cream head. Citrus and earth aroma with caramel. Grapefruit and light pine flavor with caramel. Medium bodied. Grapefruit and light pine linger with caramel and light earthiness.

Bottle. Amber pour with off white head. Smells of rye malts and hops. Tastes of the same with a slight bitter finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle:   Amber, thin to moderate frothy sandy head, spotty lacing.   Soft citrusy nose, even softer rye.   Has a slight powdery sugar background.   Rye is more noticeable on the tongue, but its also slightly medicinal.   Seems tangy, a little rough despite being fairly moderate in body and mouthfeel.   I get a slight popsicle stick like woodiness after the finish.   Rye lingers a bit too.   Tiz okay, but seems a bit rough and artificial at times.

1.5 finger off-white, full head sinks moderately quickly after pouring this deeply copper brew. The aroma is of fruit and hops and a hint of spiciness. Good taste with the fruit and hops getting top billing here, but not overpowering (in fact, maybe a little too muted?) Some peppery spice is blended well into the mix along with a sweet malt background, then finished dry. This beer is amply carbonated and finishes dry. I liked it. 8/9/13 ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: JUL 30, 2013 Btl pours ,hazy light amber color, fluffy off white head that vanished quickly leaving some nice lacing. Smells malty and medicinal with some spiciness. Tastes of sweet malts with a hint of pepper followed by bitter hops. Medium body that is slick on the tongue with a little lingering sweetness, nice bitterness decent carbonation. Ok beer. Has a weird flavor that does not belong. Cant really taste rye.

12oz bottle served in a Sam Adams perfect pint A - 1.5 finger tan head. Full and fluffy. The head sinks pretty quick with a clear, dark brown body with reddish highlights. Looks good! S - Citrus hops, faint metal notes, spicy caramel background. T - Spicy hops off the top with notes of citrus and red fruit. Sweet malt background with a peppery hop bite. There’s a weird off flavor that I can’t put my finger on. The rye is present with light spice and blend well with the fruit. Finishes with fruity rye bread, almost toasty with a dry finish. M - Medium body, ample carbonation, crisp peppery finish. Nice use of rye, not overpowering and could work well as a session beer, if it werent for that off-putting flavor. The mild fruity yeast added a nice English accent. This didn’t go down that "smooth". Serving type: bottle 04-07-2013
