Golden beer with the slightest haze. Huge soapy white head that lasted well. Sour apple aroma with wood smoke and a hint of wet dog. Thought for a moment there was an artificial strawberry flavour. It’s certainly fruity with a pleasant bitter finish. Unfortunately I found the carbonation excessive, almost aggressive. Finally, could a Belgian friend kindly explain the peculiar picture on the bottle?

Bottle marked Month-Year 06-01 but did not indicate if this was the bottled date or best before however this bottle looked old and worn. The cork cage was rusted to the cap and the upper cork dry but it popped with life and the lower cork was still very moist. Poured an orange-copper color with a little fizzy head that dissipated quickly. Small floaters present. The aroma at first reminded me of an old damp cellar, but as it warmed spices, fruits, and malts came out. The flavor was fruity, sour apples, spices, and a hint of malts (caramel maybe). Light to medium body that went down with a warm smoothness.

Bottle. Pours orange-gold with almost no head. The aroma is spice and banana with some of those lavender hints that make me think of lotion. The flavor has quite a bit of pear, some witch hazel (the plant), various fruit peels, and a tannic malt in the background. Upon reading others’ ratings, I think mine may have been badly corked, because it is very, very flat. No signs of infection though. One of these days I’ll get a new one and re-rate.

Pours a butterscotch gold to deep amber with an off white head that last for a short time. Slightly astrigent in taste with notes of pear and apple, tannic in quality with hints of bannanas in the nose.

Bottle at a cafe in Ieper (Ypres). Golden with a slight haze and nice head. Spicy fruit on the nose. Sweet spicy fruit taste a strong presence of alcohol. Drinkable, but doesn’t compare to Duvel.

KnutAlbert (6110) - Oslo, NORWAY - SEP 27, 2005
UPDATED: FEB 15, 2007 Draft. A golden ale with nice foam. The smell is slightly sour, and so is the taste. Not unpleasant, but not my cup of tea! Rerate, bottle 2007: I believe the bottled version is milder than the one I had on draft, and it is a far better beer than my previous experience.

Dorqui (2110) - Brescia, ITALY - SEP 25, 2005
Bottled, ABV 9,0%. Creamy and fine foam, good continuation and friability. Orange clearly color, elegant, a lot veiled and bubbly. Winy and much prickly scent. Fresh notes of yellow grapes and must, discreet alcoholic rumors. Extremely pungent and delicate taste, nearly white wine but much solid and of character. Smooth with bitter present only in the end. Also notes of wine cellar and clear mildews. Optimal.
