3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 maeib (6630) - Wootton, Northampton, - MAR 1, 2007
Bottled. An orange coloured beer with a big white head and a little lacing. The aroma is very yeasty and there are reasonable hops also. Lots of house yeast notes in the flavour too with peppery hops. Thick and heavy alcoholic flavours. Sippable but a bit OTT.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 jimthechap (795) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 28, 2012
Clear, sparkling and golden with a good two fingers of head on top. There’s an immediate aroma of astringency, but upon sticking the nose into the glass it becomes a little funky along with stale cheese. I write that but it isn’t nearly as pejorative as it sounds. The cheese has been left out for a little too long and has started to sweat and go hard. There’s also some citrus peel aroma. I’m undecided whether I like that aroma or not.
In the mouth there is prickly mouthfeel and then sour juiciness. The sourness is the lengthy dominant flavour here. Again, undecided whether I like this or not.

Golden color with good head. The scent is a little sharp. A little too strong and something spicy triple.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 visionthing (532) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAY 19, 2012
33cl shared bottle at BREW - Beers & Ciders, Bangkok. Pours golden with a white head. Aroma of alcohol and sweet fruits with some malt. Sweet and malty with a distinct taste of alcohol. Finishes slightly bitter. Ok strong ale, but the alcohol was to dominating. (2012-05-17)
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 8, 2012
Brown 33cl dumpy bottle, best before Oct 2009, drank in March 2007.
Poured into a Straffe Hendrik bowl glass. Slightly hazy orange, tangarine colour, the white head stayed for a short while, carbonation continueing throughout trying to replenish the ever shrinking head and failing.
Yeast and more yeast, overpowers all other aroma’s.
Heavy alcohol taste, a type of good quality Dortmunder with attitude and more. Mixed cereals (wheat, rye, barley, etc) appear within the alcoholic haze of this strong beer.
A slightly fizzy, carbonated feel to it, alcohol stays in the back of your mouth also.
I was going to give more scores of 4, but there is something wrong/false about this beer I can’t put my tongue too. The alcohol is hiding the true flavours. I had a Brigand Christmas on tap in the Kulminator (Antwerp) last Friday, it was wonderful, this normal Brigand doesn’t quiet pull the same way.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 mile (1447) - Helsinki, FINLAND - APR 29, 2012
Bottle. Golden, average and mostly lasting head. Moderate, malty sweetish and fruity citrus aroma, light caramel and light spiciness (coriander, cinnamon, pepper), light hoppyness. Body is average, malty sweetish, some caramel and fruitiness, light spiciness. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish with some caramel and light fruitiness, light spiciness and light hoppyness, some alcohol. Fruity Belgian strong ale – could be drier, too much caramel.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MarcoE (6) - NETHERLANDS - APR 8, 2012 does not count
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Scrapersnbeer (451) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - APR 7, 2012
Picked up a bottle at Marty’s Big Buys, which is the only place I’ve seen any in many months. This beer is about four years old, but ages well. Aroma of fruity esters, black licorice, alcohol and champagne yeast. Signature deep orange of the style, very effervescent and good head retention. Flavor of rock candy and white zin with boozy background. Feels light yet substantial, like a triple saison maybe. Honsebrouck’s importer is pushing the Kasteel label around here pretty heavily. Bring this one back without the Robin Hood graphic.
