3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 altonbrownd (3580) - Brussels, BELGIUM - FEB 3, 2009
On tap at Wildeman. Wow, a Belgian IPA - until I find out that it’s not... Light red body with slight head. Hoppy nose. Non-descript start. Taste of hops, some spices. Prickly, hoppy finish.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MesandSim (7109) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 26, 2009
A Mes rate. Bottle at Chris O’s pre NYE tasting. Clean dark gold with a rocky off white head that fades quickly. I have to appologise for the following rating being a little thin on the ground but really it’s all I have to say. A standard and rather boring Belgian ale with just enough resinous hops to barely give justification for its title. Bland.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 CapedBrewsader (266) - Brasschaat, BELGIUM - JAN 24, 2009
33cl bottle at home, iRate: Pours a perfect polished copper with a tainted yellow fading head. Sweet pale malt with some caramel ontop is the first thing I notice. Faint stewed green vegetables and some mild yeast character run around in the back. There is a bitter herb note that I suppose could be the hops but for something called an IPA I am wondering where the hops are hiding. Maybe they are in the flavor. CO2 is quite punchy. Thee is more hop character on the tongue than on the nose... But not IPA hops! Metallic hop note with base of caramel and some cardboard. A little slickness on the tongue. Decently bitter but not like you’d expect. Spice, probably yeast derived, goes nicely with the hops and caramel. Has anyone said that it’s an OK beer, but no IPA?

Aroma has some grass/grain, citrus. Not really the hops I associate with IPA’s. Hazy yellow coloured with a white head. The taste is slightly bitter, citric, some yeast.
