courtesy of Allen - pours a translucide golden-amber colour under a firm and long lasting pale beige foam; solid flowery aroma with notes of caramel and yeast; slightly sticky and medium-bodied, some flowery bitterness lasting in a caramelish and bready finish - interesting
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 chrisv10 (7838) - DENMARK - FEB 6, 2010
33 cl bottle. Amber body with small off-white head. Flavour is malt, sweet and some hops behind the malt profile.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MoritzF (7756) - Bochum, GERMANY - MAR 8, 2009
(33cl bottle) Clear, amber colour with a thick and slightly off-white foamy head. Sweet cara-malty aroma with shy floral hoppy notes and a very subtle fruity touch. Sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied with a calm carbonation. Distinctive caramel-malty taste, slightly bready with herbal hops. Slightly sweet malty and herbal hoppy finish with a cara-malty and slightly alcoholic aftertaste. Despite the name not an overly convincing brew (08.III.09).
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 maeib (7542) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - MAY 25, 2010
Bottled The Greys Brighton. An amber coloured beer with a fairly thick white head and lacing. There is caramel in the aroma with woody hops. A pretty good bittersweet balance with non Belgian hopping and a caramel sweetness. A nice chewy body. I liked it.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 FatPhil (7496) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - MAR 22, 2009
330ml bottle (One Pint, Helsinki, Belgian Weeks 2009)
Deep orange, healthy head. Dusty hops, but also quite lagery, aroma. Candi-sugar and metallic taste. Very simply malty body. Hops are a bit grassy. Some plastic too. Boring and a touch of alcohol too in places. No yeast in the bottle - not a good sign - not a proper belgian ale.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JorisPPattyn (7305) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - NOV 17, 2008
Medium, light-amber head over bright, but pale foxy-amber beer. Caramel, bit of parsley, old velvet sofas. And what about the hops? Taste – ah. Here’s the hop – but still rather faint. Grassy, herbal and parsley; lots of caramel. Rather good balance. Well-carbonated, spritzy. Not very well-bodied, ends a bit sticky. Interesting, but neither great, neither very “IPA” as I see it.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MesandSim (7118) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 26, 2009
A Mes rate. Bottle at Chris O’s pre NYE tasting. Clean dark gold with a rocky off white head that fades quickly. I have to appologise for the following rating being a little thin on the ground but really it’s all I have to say. A standard and rather boring Belgian ale with just enough resinous hops to barely give justification for its title. Bland.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 leaparsons (7069) - Leicester, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - MAY 16, 2009
Bottle. Golden with a white head. Aromas are caramel and tea with earthy light pine hops. Flavours are sweet caramel with dry, lightly bitter green hops. Some sweet toffee and tea with yeast and a bitter, woody finish. Not a true IPA and a touch thin.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Leighton (6930) - London, ENGLAND - NOV 3, 2010
Bottle. Pours clear amber, very bubbly, with a fluffy, off-white head. Malty aroma, with some light grain and caramel. Flavor is fairly sweet, with definite notes of caramel, some booze, bread, and mild, earthy bitterness. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation and some alcohol warmth. Finish is a little muddled, though mostly sweet and slightly syrupy. Not bad overall. Definitely nothing here in the ’IPA’ realm. Total misnomer, man.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 DruncanVeasey (6110) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Premier, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - AUG 21, 2010
Bottle The Jenners brought round. Brass coloured with a creamy, lacing head. Aroma of bees, wholemeal; hints of cake and plenty of almond-accented booze. Drab and insipid with middling notes of sultana, beans, hay and...more honey. Orange notes, but swamped in almond. Certainly no IPA.
