Bright, clear blond appearance. Has some soft, light malt flavours. It’s quite thick and a bit furry feeling. Warming alcohol finish.

Draught @ Gastropub Tuulensuu. Rated on 27.11.2010
Aroma is sweet with malt, some brown sugar and spices. Flavour has malt, some orange peel, hints of brown sugar and warming alcohol that gets stronger towards the finish. Decent.

Very difficult to get. Only brewed for export to specialist beer bars in Holland and always in casks, no bottles. I managed to review it at the 16th Essen Christmas beer festival 2010, where they always try and get a barrel. Darker than the regular Brigand and with a better head which remained intact for longer than the regular too. Stronger in flavour also, maltier and spiced? I could detect coriander both in the smell and taste. The hop content is certainly overpowered by the malty character of the brew. The alcohol is masked by a sweetness from the malts, but this isn’t one of those sickly winter brews you sometimes come across in Belgium, this is very good indeed.

Draft @ de engel. Aroma is swampy fruit. Flavour is meh, swamp and fruit. I hope something is wrong with this beer.

Orange, light fizzy body. Typical Belgian sweetness. Nothing special, cloves, clementine and white sugar. Light sweet taste from start to finish. Well brewed but a bit boring. (On tap at De Wildeman)

UPDATED: JAN 23, 2013 Rerate. Less clove this year. Still some, and very spicy. Sour sweet. Watery body, though not thin. On tap as "Winter Brigand". Clear orange with nice white head. As soon as I put my nose in the glass, the clove lowered my expectations of this beer, too much clove! Taste is not much better, way too much clove again.

Tap @ de engel, delft. Clear blond pour, thin white head. Aroma is swampy, murky and spicy dirt. Flavor is spicy bitter and swampy yeast. Yuck.

17/12/2011 on tap as "Winter Brigand" @ Kerstbierfestival (Essen) - BB: n/a (2011-714)

Clear blond to light orange beer, creamy white head, unstable, very adhesive. Aroma: oranges, witbier like, spicy, hops, coriander? MF: good carbon, medium body. Taste: malty, citrus fruits, quite some rotten fruits too, green banana, bit of spices, pepper. Aftertaste: metallic, hop bitter.

15cl draft sample @ Kerstbierfestival ’11, Essen.

On tap as ’Winter Brigand’
Amber gold colour, white head. Malty aroma, spices, candy sugar, light fruit, somewhat tart, green apple and raisins. Flavour sweet, somewhat tart, quite spicy. Not my favourite.
(Draught @ local pub in Nijmegen)
