Bottle in Melbourne. Not much to write home about, or to write anything down about, which is exactly what I didn’t do, so I don’t have much to say about it.

Nov 30, 2008 Strong head good carbonation,amber misty colour.Aroma citric,sea air,mild hop,flavour bitter,citris,malt is smooth,hops from the start farly strong and balanced,theay are the main falavours,finish hoppy/bitter,dry.

Jun 11, 2008 ...bottle. Well, I don’t know why they tried putting so many different malts in this beer, but that ruined it. No head, too overly carbonated. The hops are way too overpowering, especially in the finish. I hope thier witbeer is better than this, because 4.95 a bottle for this is rediculous.

Jul 30, 2007 Ok, so I have a bit of a story about this beer. I tried their Pioneer beer on tap on several occasions up on Dinner Plain, and was keen to find a bottled version, so a mate and I sort after it when we were down in Bright. So after checking both IGA bottleshops we were finally told to check out the deli up the road where the bloke who brews it works. We get there, we mentions that he doesn’t have Pioneer in bottles only this near beer which is a bit less rich but equally nice, so my mate and I say how much, $90 later we have a case of Hellfire Ale between us. That was 2 years ago, I won’t be suprised if this beer has turned since! Toffee malts on the nose and the odd bit of oxidised dried apricot-like fruit one can expect from a beer this age. Pours a clean mid-amber body with a bit of white lace. Body is thin, slightly watery, flat carbonation. Sweet toffee malt comes through in the flavour, some remnants of spicy citrus hoppiness present, and an underlying "aged" dried fruitiness. I attribute the thinness and abruptness of flavour in this beer from the test of time, because I do remember it being quite decent.

does not count  Dec 3, 2006 Toffee and caramel in both flavour and colour, tried it on tap and was dissapointed with head and lack of carbonation. is it meant to be like that ? Sure it had more guts out of a bottle, regardless still got that crisp bitterness at the finish to balance the intial sweetness
Want to drink this beer on an Autumn evening in an Alpine forest with a steaming bowl of spiced pumpkin soup and a transistor radio.
