COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
After more requests than we can poke a stick at, we’ve brewed the pilot batch of our Bright Lager and it’s shaping up to be a dangerously drinkable beer - only around 4.7% alcohol, but the subtle honey character leaves you wanting more.

Poured clear golden body with no head and no carbonation. The bottle was filled to the brim, the taste and aroma were pretty ordinary, could drink it but didn’t want another.

Pours gold with a large, lasting head. Nose shows restrained fruity and floral hops alongside cardboard-like bready malt. Similar problems in the way of flavours; cardboard and doughy notes to the extreme with very little redeeming malt or hops. Body seems watery.

330ml bottle. Very thin and watery looking, pale light yellow with no head at all. Moderate bland aroma and a quite harsh flavour and very thin in the mouth. Not pleasant at all.

From a 330ml bottle on 12/11/2011. Pours a pale yellow with almost no head. There’s just the barest of carbonation present, making me question whether it was a dud bottle. Has a fairly ordinary grainy aroma. Taste wise, it’s just a shade more interesting than your average macro lager, with a slightly zesty citrus hop presence the most notable feature. Might have gone close to getting a pass mark if the carbonation wasn’t so shite.

Slightly cloudy golden colour, unusual for a lager in thi sstyle. Strong wheat aroma. Incredibly bitter first bite, however a little watery. Not for me this one.

Bottle. Just hazy gold with a white head. Mild aroma of lemon, some berries, honey. Taste is slightly sweet with bitterness that’s less than balancing but enough to make it almost crisp at the end. Moderate honey, subtle berries. Quite soft mouthfeel. A little watery and drops away quite quickly. You could do a lot worse on a warm afternoon.

At first glance very much in the ’why bother’ camp. There’s no shortage of crap pale lagers around and this mob do things better than most so why not concentrate on your strengths. That said they probably do get hassled to make a summer drinking beer and I guess this is what most punters would go for. This has more obvious malt impact than most of the genre but the flavours are very simple (honey and sweet citrus) and the beer does cloy on the finish. Not a deal breaker though. A bit stale on the nose.

Bottle & Tap - Suppose to be a special once off, but will be a regular due to the popular demand. Great larger, strong grain flavours with hints of honey. Best beer coming out of Bright Brewery.
