This beer was very nearly its creators final gift to the world. The day before it was due to be debuted to the world at the Victorian Microbreweries Showcase, brewer Jon Seltin went paragliding and had to do an emergency landing atop of Mt Feathertop. It took him six hours just to hike down, meaning he didn’t return to the brewery until around 10PM (after being MIA since 2pm), by which stage brewery owner Scott Brandon had called the police to retrieve his body. Thankfully, he was only MIA, not DOA, so this is no parting gift. Instead, it’s a really rather fabulous celebration of fruity, tropical, floral hops, with a nicely balanced bitterness and a malt structure that does just what it needs to in order that the hops can sing. Here’s hoping more is brewed before something else happens to the brewer…

330mL bottle from Slowbeer. Bottled 16/06/15 Pours a good looking hazy copper body atop a good-sized fluffy white foam. Punchy hop aroma - gooseberry, passionfruit, guava, papaya, mango, bitter orange with an appreciable measure of caramel maltiness. Full bodied, has a distinct chewy malt texture, moderate creamy carbonation. Sweet caramel malt upfront on the body, slightly toasty & biscuity, touch of butterscotch, leading into ripe tropical fruit notes of lime, guava, melon, papaya, mango. Firm bitterness, slightly lean finish, Very nice, hop flavour is rather delicious!

From bottle. Pours amber with bubbly head. Big stone-fruity hop aroma that continues on into a fruit salad of a beer. Sufficient malting to not have the hops completely dominate. Walks a lovely line halfway between English and West Coast styling. One of the best beers I’ve tasted from the Bright stable.

Bottle. Amber with an inch of white head that lasts all the way. Big noseful of hops: loads of tropical fruit (passionfruit, lychee, guava), hashish, a touch of menthol, grass, singed toffee. Very sweet and fairly plain toffee, creamy texture. Waves of resin, tropical fruit, grass, pepper. Bitterness is only enough really to clean up the sweetness. A bit on the sweet side for me but very good indeed.

One of those really interesting beers trying to figure out what hops went into this brew. Great smelling and great tasting. Just really good at the end of the day.

Pours amber with a fading head. Nose shows lychees, papaya, rockmelon along with fruit confectionery. A fair whack of sweet clean malt underneath. Full-on flavours. Big fruity notes along with truckloads of sweet clean malt roll through followed by an aggressive bitterness. Carbonation could be a little higher.

On tap in a tulip glass at the Local Taphouse, St Kilda on 18/3/13. Pours slightly cloudy golden brown with an off white head. You cannot miss the massive grass aromas with unmistakable notes of resin and skunk. This beer smells green and fruity - reflecting the dry hoping process it has been subjected to. A great display of Australian hops. The flavour smacks you with an intense hop bitterness upfront that subsides leaving a lingering sweetness from the caramel malts. It’s really a great and balanced beer. You could easily drink a few which isn’t always the case with big IPAs.

On tap at Josie Bones. Great hoppy ale. Aromas of caramel, grass, flowers, and cherry. Taste is sweet and bitter, with long length. Palate is creamy, with a medium-to-full body. Red, with a frothy head.
